Last night I removed the Neg terminal on my battery to fix an issue with my steering wheel button controls to my after market head unit. Anyway, the reset seemed to fix the logic issue I was having. However, there seems to be is a side effect on the ECU. I have a '13 DCSB with the 6 spd, and for some reason the engine would rev between 1 and 2k RPMs when in neutral and coasting in traffic. It was really weird. It got so bad I turned off the motor while coasting and restarted it. After that it started to run more like normal but still running the revs a little high (1k at idle). I'll just chalk it up to the ECU re-learning shit.
Is this expected? Anyone else ever have this issue?

Drive it for a week, at engine temp it should be around 700 rpms idling IIRC.

Resetting the ECU clears out all the fuel trims and shift patterning - so the ECU is running everything a bit higher than normal to ensure it won't idle out and die. Give it a tank or two maybe and do your best to drive normally and it'll get back to how you remember it more or less.

Mine usually clears up after about 20 miles of driving 09, 6 speed 4.0 L. You will notice your air conditioning doesn't work right either - cycle it back and forth between off and on and it will eventually get back to normal.

Too many to list, and I've probably forgotten a bunch.
With the electronic throttle in the newer Tacomas, the computer has to relearn what throttle plate position gives expected idle speeds. It's a combination of reading the throttle position, the AFR sensors, the injector trim and I think calculated vs. actual engine load over a range of conditions.

The same thing will happen if you ever get the throttle body really gunked up and then clean it. If it doesn't re-learn within 100 miles or so, I'd pester the dealer. Probably will just say "They all do that" and shoo you away, though. :/

Traded the 2015 TRD Pro 6spd Supercharged on a PowerWagon and could not be happier. My 2011 Tacoma with the TX Baja package (Added by me) is still treating me great. My 1985 Toyota never skips a beat.
this is the first mention of the issue i had recently with the dead battery have found.

I second this, when it forgets the a/c goes into stupid mode.. i did the same thing, cycled it a few times and havent had an issue since. Thank god im not crazy!

I'm not sure if the A/C disable is related to distance driven since you restored power or just cycling the switch a bunch of times. I thought the idle-relearn procedure required no extra load (AC, defrost, etc.) on the motor for something like a 20-mile drive cycle, but I may have that confused with something else.

Did you get your AC back to 'sane' without driving the truck any distance at all? If so, good thing to know. But yeah I had that problem once, too. It started working again just as I was pulling into the local dealer.

I was on the 26 mile drive to my dealer because i had been bump starting my dead battery 2013 tacoma for 2 days. It did it again on the drive out of the dealer and was working by the time i got home. Wierd..

But it works now and i have lots of warranty left so not really worried about it.
