Just to add to that, go to toyota.com, click on Owners. Sign up there and you can directly log all your work as owner maintenance:

In each of the entries that I made, I added the brand and type of fluids as well as any part numbers for seals, gaskets, and filters.

With those purchases all on Amazon, I have easy access to the receipts.

So is the A6000 and A6001 calibration for automatic transmissions.
I’m assuming the MT and AT trucks have different calibrations.

Yep. 04A60 going to 04A61 is the AT engine ECU IDs.

The MT and AT engine ECUs are supposedly different including internal functions. This was discussed in the tuning threads before I stopped paying attention.

I just got my update today along w/ a new blower fan.
Just like what others reported—smoother theodolite curve and less dramadic up/down sifting. Over all better drivability!
I think Toyota chainged some parameters in the throttle control but I think they did some tweaking to the stability and traction control systems also. Maybe made them less sensitive.
Befor, It seemed like the engian was cutting back “stubulimg” the same way as loosing traction, accelerating and hard braking or over steering the truck.
    Just my 2 cents....

I was able to get the ECU update using this TSB at Stevens Creek Toyota. My engine did surge a little when steering at idle.

When I pulled off the lot and into the street, I was able to notice the difference immediately.

Before the update, there was this weird dead spot before 2K RPM. That dead spot is gone now. Also, I wasn't able to take off on second gear if I was below 2K RPM. In fact, the engine felt like it was going to stall. Now, I can do that with no issues.

I can also leave the transmission in 6th gear, and freely go up moderate hills and mountains without having to downshift. I wasn't able to do that before. On moderate inclines It was difficult to hold speed in 6th and even difficult to hold speed at sharper inclines in 5th gear.

Overall, this is a significant improvement to the driving experience. I just feels normal now.

I can only imagine what an improvement the 91 octane OV tune feels like.

To all those ball busters on various message boards across the internet spouting off that "ECU tunes won't do anything on NA car", "Manufacturers already have the optimal ECU programing", or "It's all in your head"

You can all go kick rocks. The Tacoma came with the most weird and god awful factory tuned engine that I, frankly, have ever driven.

Thanks to Toyota for finally fixing this issue.

Which tsb did you reference? Though not exactly local they are close enough to warrant a visit. Has anyone in contra costa county tried any of the local dealerships in the area with any success?

    0125-18.

They, Stevens creek Toyota, made me sign an agreement that I would pay $200 if the TSB didn't apply to my vehicle.

I thought it was a dickhead move but whatever.

Did you have to pay the $200? Or it did in fact apply?

I’d report them to Toyota corporate. That’s totally unacceptable!

I didn't pay the $200 because the TSB applied.

I never worked with that customer rep before. He wasn't a very nice guy at all. I had my 25K service scheduled, and when I got there, I asked if I could have the TSB applied as well. He said he wouldn't, and I had to schedule that separately because they are on a tight schedule.

I responded with "okay sure". Then when they took my Truck off to get serviced, I called to schedule the appointment for the TSB. The phone operator, who was very pleasant, said there would be a spot available shortly after my appointment. So I found the guy, and I told the guy that I am scheduled now. He then acted all surprised. I tried not to be an asshole about it. I just kept my composure although I was already furious that I had to scheduled another appointment.

He brought up the paper work, and then made me sign, what was basically, a $200 dollar hedge for the dealership if the TSB didn't apply. I was even more pissed off, but I signed because I felt it would apply.

I have been at the dealership 6 times now. 3 times were with great customer reps and the other three were not good.

I recently bought a used Toyota sienna a few months back, and I forgot to run a OBDII diagnostic before a I bought it. Sure enough, I got brought it home and the OBDII reader shot out 2 codes.

I brought it to this dealership because the Sienna was still under factory warranty. They said they would run the diagnostic and perform an inspection. The codes turned about to be nothing. I was prepared to pay for the service, but the rep said, "hey, man don't worry about! I see you are a customer with us, so I won't charge for the inspection and diagnostic!".

It all depends on the individual. Some people are jerks and some people aren't. Most people go to the dealerships and expect slimeball service reps and some guys fit that bill. What can you do?

My complementary service period is over, so I probably won't be going to the dealership any more.

If you've found a service rep that you like, and has treated you well see if you can only schedule with that person. I have one rep at the dealership I use has always been an ass. I simply refuse to be scheduled with him, and my dealership experience has been better since.

FYI ... I took my 2018 TRD off road MT in for this update (build 5/2018) and referenced the TSB mentioned in this thread. Got the "we never heard of this one before" look but they would investigate and apply during my 5K service.

Was told that this TSB did not apply to my vehicle, only 16s and 17s, and everything was up to date.

If this is not true, anyone have any documentation to show otherwise?

    thank you.

It is because TSB-0125-18 does not list 2018s, see this post:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/software-update-for-the-manual.562550/page-106#post-18883496

Check that your ECU ID is 04A71, or they lied to you:

My 7/18 does not have the latest calibration, it has 04A70. So I’m thinking they blew you off and didn’t check. Unfortunately the TSB doesn’t list the 18.
I haven’t bothered trying to get it done.

I struck out with my dealer. Claimed they couldn't reproduce the surging. Service advisor even drove it himself. I didn't push too hard, because I also have a check engine light that they spent a bunch of time figuring out. Parts are on order for that fix (evap canister), so maybe I'll try again to get the update when I go in for that.

If not, anyone in Salt Lake City area have a tactrix cable they would like to rent out?

I have a 17 MT (Nov 16 build) and don’t have this surging problem......is it still worth it for me to get this TSB? Might as well?
