Spent all night reading this thread and have a question not yet asked.. Has anyone bought a MT Tacoma within the last three months (Aug, Sept, Oct) and had their dealership check the calibration ID which shows the update came with your truck? I bought mine last month and am wondering if Toyota may have fixed this issue already. That said, I do have a distinct delay in throttle responce. It is a lot like the days of the four barrel carburetor.

The software is not checked at the dealership level and the info when the calabration update came out on the production line is not shared with the dealer.

Agreed! Two folks noted that their August 2018 builds were up to date, but no pics were posted.

Do you think the dealership would give me problems if I wanted to bring my laptop and hook it up to newer 2018s and check the codes? :D

Bought my truck beginning of September (not sure where I'd check build date). Verified by the dealer that it has the old software and even with the glowing Y in the tool they refused to do the update.

Hahaha! You could take a backpack on a test drive if they let you go alone. :D There's is always a BT adapter and OBD Fusion?

It's on the drivers side door jamb.

I bough my 2017 in September 2017. It was a May 2017 build. It all depends on build cycles at the plants (they build certain configurations in batches), time for the allocation, and how long it was on the lot.

Figures, my build date is August '18 so am not sure it will be worth the fight to possibly end up with egg on my face.

BT adapters and the OBD Fusion app are generally cheap compared to other mods. Just be sure that the adapter that you get has good compatibility reviews. Mine is 5yrs old and works great with both Torque and Carista. I bought it because it worked with Torque. With OBD Fusion, you can pull the ECU ID.

You could get the Carista branded one and use Fusion with it:
    https://caristaapp.com/pricing

It is worth it, IMHO, since you can do the setting customizations also, like killing the seat belt chimes, the number of one-touch turn signal flashes, etc.

Also, if you get up this way, I'd be happy to check for you. I used to have an accidental subscription to Carista, but it expired middle of last month.

My salesman would let me do it. He let me pull several map SD cards to compare with mine :gossip:

Three were the same as mine and one was a year older. We concluded that Toyota's GPS maps just suck lol.

It's lightyears ahead of the wife's Forester navi, but lightyears behind the phone. I haven't even bothered searching for old cards to swap in. Maybe a bunch of years down the road, I might. :)

    Painless except reading that write-up.

I'm a really bad speeler and usually edit posts a couple times to fix all the problems. I don't see service advisers caring that much?

Some day, I want to be careeristic though.

Ok, Taco Peeps, I'm new to the forum so let me first say hello. I have a 2018 TRD Offroad with a manual transmission (bought new in March 2018). I have noticed a slight surge in several gears. I have also noticed the engine rev stays high between shifts which for me requires a slight slip of the clutch...which I do NOT like, at all! I am scheduled to have my 10k service done in a couple weeks and have read EVERY single page of this thread. I am skeptical my dealer will perform the TSB update because it only lists auto transmission and 2016 & 2017 year vehicles. How do I determine what ECM version I currently have? Is it as simple as telling the service rep to hook up the truck to the TechStream and look for updates? Will the TechStream actually show an update available for a 2018 MT? I plan to take all three TSB's with me (0125, 0058 and 0062) but again these are for AT pickups. Again, how do I determine what ECM version I'm running so I can show them the update is needed? I'd like to have all my ducks in a row before going in so thanks in advance for any solid advice!

There is a different TSB for idle surge steering input TSB 0125-18, same calibration but doesn't specify transmission so you should not have a problem, I plan to go this route for my truck.

You don't need 62 since it does not include the MT software. Only 58 and 125. That said, only shows 2018 MTs, and the attached software is applicable. The problem is that 58 says it is only for ATs. You just need to help the dealership step through the TSBs, especially that table at the bottom of page three that specifically list MT ECUs.

If you search @MOC221_ 's posts in this thread about the OBD Fusion app, you will get instructions for pulling the ECU ID that is loaded on your Taco.

First off, kudos to you to have the sensibility to post about something important to you and that actually matters. Generally the first post from a user is some stupid thread just trying to fit in. LOL! Yeah man, I think you should get this figured out if it bothers you. Second, print out the two TSB's that apply to your truck and physically highlight the parts that for your ECU code. That will definitely help and make them shooting you down much harder. Let us know what you end up doing! Best of luck!
