Well I'm just waiting on my tactrix to be delivered by usps and update here I come!! Finally I can't ditch 04B10 and never look back! I've spent 120k miles with this tune, I hope everything works out. Now I just have to be able to follow the steps and install it. :fingerscrossed:

How'd you convince your dealer to update your 2017?

    I failed...

I wouldn't mention anything tsb it only seems to complicate everything. I just scheduled a appointment for a diagnostic check and asks them to update the ecu if an update showed up, and they said an auto trans update shows, and I advised to that it was on to perform that update on my truck and they agreed.
When you said you failed, what did you ask them to do?

Well success! And I can tell from the 20 miles I driven so far on the new tune, it drives like it should have from the beginning! No more damn stumble or hesitation, I'm impressed. I love this truck all over again, now it's time for that ovtune! Thanks everyone who has helped out on this thread, seriously!!

I’ve used this cord to change the blinker tap duration and seatbelt beep. I used the 32-but emulator from the ih8mud forum. Will that setup work to do this update? Sorry if it’s covered, I read through 5 pages to look for the “why” behind the warning in the original post and got tired of clicking.

    Thanks in advance

No one AFAIK has successfully run the update with that style cable. One or two have actually semi-bricked their ecu's using it, and had to send them in to ovtune to get fixed.

2018 MT. It seems from this thread that there is a solution for the stumble. But my dealer and Toyota Dispute Resolution seem to be clueless, though I have mentioned TSB-0125-18 and -0058-18. They keep telling me it's normal, which is ridiculous. When I mention Lemon Law they seem to perk up and move me on to another process i.e. getting more techs involved. Also from this thread I'm tempted to get the OV tune kit and be done with the Toyota folks. Dealer says OV tune would not void warranty. I feel a slight moral responsibility to make Toyota perform. Anyone care to opine? Pursue Toyota or go OV tune?

Well if you still have a warranty then I would have Toyota do it, just don't mention tsb or anything like that, just ask the to perform a health check and have the tech update the ecu, they will probably say it's for the auto and won't work blah blah blah, just say try it and if it doesn't work then no harm no foul. But it will work because we know it's there.
But if you going to do the ovtune eventually then just buy the cable you need to do the tune with and update with Toyota's tune and then you still have the cable you need for the ovtune anyways.
    What's your current ecu id?

I would ask to get that in writing. Then, get OVT, install the TSB tune, and then install OVT.

The other option is to get the Tactrix cable and do the TSB tune. You can then decide later on OVT for a price minus the Tactrix.

Go to a different dealer. From the sounds of it, the dealer you’re working with is garbage. When you get the survey, completely burn them. Dealerships live and die by those surveys.

Thanks everyone. Really good input. I think I'll keep pushing Toyota and working with the dealer. I think the dealer is trying. They have gone on long test drives, kept the truck and run real-time testing on it. I think they are hobbled by a lack of support from corporate. The lady on the complaint line seemed sympathetic and is escalating my case. She was telling me there was nothing they could do until I mentioned getting a lemon lawyer and suddenly I was escalated.

RE getting a cable and flashing the TSB tune...I have no idea how to do that. Can you recommend a tutorial? I'm not afraid-just never done anything like that. My auto tech knowledge presently ends at about 1965. I would love to have some control over this situation.

I'm curious...if I went with the OV kit that comes with the cable would I still want to install the TSB tune? Do they work better together or would the OV flash override the TSB anyway? Sorry if I'm asking questions that have already been addressed. The thread is just so long...

Hopefully, they will help you out. It is funny though because it is literally 10min of work and has been a good fix for both AT and MT Tacos.

This is the first vehicle that I ever flashed. It is easy if you read the instructions and pre-test everything. In the end, if you have messed around with OBD scanners and adapters, that is most of the new knowledge and learning. The Tractix cable is just using a computer in the place of your cell phone. All the info for doing the TSB tune is in the 1st Post of this thread.

I also flashed another TW'er Taco as a favor. You might reach out to other local folks that might be able to help? Ask in this thread or the OVT threads.

So looking back at your answers I have a plan. I'm taking it in for 15k service and will do what toyotafanforlife suggested. I'll get the OV tune kit anyway and install both the TSB and OV flash if the dealer can't fix, and the OV anyway if dealer does fix...always up for a little more HP. I will then have a perfect truck, right?

    Yes. You will be good.

OVT does a lot of good things to this motor and gives you the choice on how you want it to feel. The power bump is pretty big also.

Thanks tonered. I am fearless! I do have a gearhead/computer nerd friend who will handhold me through this. I'm looking forward to it. Long road from color-tuning my SU's (old guys will get the reference).

    You're welcome!

    That should get you through.

I had a colortune for the Ural that I had before the Taco. Last year for carbs. Reaming jets was fun though. That was a bigger challenge than this.
