Hahaha! I like info. I started writing down the ECU stuff because it was getting confusing, esp with a small hit of dyslexia. :D

I finally found the printout. It says ICS ECU update. So im guessing that wasnt the software update for the ECU.

Anyone know if there is a way to upgrade from 04B12 with the OVtuned handheld for the 2017 Tacoma? Is the tech stream file comparable? That’s the question I guess.

AFAIK, the TSB software is windows only. You might ask OVT or the HH vendor if it will recognize CUW files.

I’ve attempted to get the dealer to give me the update and failed. Really only cared because of the ability to use the Beta 2.0 tunes. Anyone able to help me understand what or if there is a difference between the 93 FOB tune on 04B12 and the 93 FOB tune on 04B13? I realize the base B12 and B13 tunes are different in some way but if you had 2 different ECUs, 1 ECU with 04B12 flashed with 93 FOB and 1 with 04B13 flashed with 93 FOB.. would they not be identical minus the original calibration name?

I got OVT about 8mo after I flashed the TSB tune.

This is what OVT said about it:

If you have the Flash Kit and this thread, you have everything you need to flash at home.

Note that the Beta page is coming down soon, so grab any of the ones that you might want now.

Well poopy diapers.. Guess maybe I’ll take my OBD2 reader and go back to Toyota to try again.. I’ve got the OFT and not the flash kit so Id need to pick up a cable to update my ECU. Thanks for the info.

wont need the beta tunes when he releases them. But apparently the new ECU flash will be beneficial after all.

When I flashed the TSB tune, I used a borrowed Tactrix cable. I'm pretty certain that there are local OVT folks that could help you out. I flashed another person's Taco while I had the cable in hand.

You might also try TSB-0013-19 (attached). The symptom is interesting, but it at least lists the MT Tacos. TSB-0058-18 and TSB-0125-18 were revised to remove the references to the MTs ECUs, even though the CUWs apply to us.

Yeah, I saw that post a few months ago but pretty much ignored it cuz El Paso is practically California. Something like a 10 hour drive from San Antonio. But maybe it’s worth a shot.

I'm sure there are many other folks that would help you out. The person that helped me sent me their cable in the mail. I covered the replacement cost and two way shipping. The replacement money was refunded promptly and the MPG bump paid for the shipping pretty quickly.

I'd offer mine up, but with the tune update coming, I want to hold on to it. If you're still SoL after the tune drops, hit me up.

Totally understand, @tonered. I appreciate you, brother.
I’m going to head over to Toyota cuz I have nothing better to do and try the “look.. I know there are several TSBs out that reference a new calibration code that I don’t have, so what’s it going to take to get you to make this happen?” Approach.

    You're welcome!

Some dealers did the early TSBs because they referenced the MT ECUs. After the revisions it got harder. If your previous conversations lead to them just looking for some kind of billable coverage, then take copy of TSB-0013-19 along with you. That at least shows your ECU and the update. It is all the same software that gets you to 04B13.

All of the Work Orders posted in this thread showed 0.4hrs billed for the update. In reality, it takes less than 10min, including getting the computer out.

The other way-out-there one was TSB-0062-18 with a symptom that listed issues when driving at altitude. Although, it only applied to ATs and came with AT-only CUW files. That might be the wrong tree to bark up, but who knows?

My dealer has been great to deal with so far, but I didn't want tarnish my good opinion, which is a new experience for me. That is why I did it at home. Hahaha!

Idk if @St.Germain is willing but he's out somewhere in mid/east Texas. If I remember correctly. Or maybe it's redbeard, can't remember his exact handle.

Edit: just looked through my messages, it's @RedBeard1

Failing that, shipping the cable isn't a bad idea actually. I'd be willing.
