I don’t understand why it has to be such a big deal. I was a service writer for Acura back in high school on an internship. Ended up working there for a few years and I always tried to be accommodating. The mechanics had to troubleshoot to some extent but I don’t remember this kind of BS being a big deal. I do all my own maintenance on everything I own cuz I’m picky. No one takes care of your stuff better than you will, so I don’t have a relationship with my dealer. And I just rolled through 20,000 this week.

There were a couple stories floating around about dealers bricking ECUs, which was a thing confirmed by a few folks doing their own TSB flashes. If the dealer bricks an ECU and doesn't have coverage from Corporate, they are out like $1,500 for a new ECU.

That said, we have the bench flashing instructions, so the ECUs can be unbricked.

For a dealer and Toyota in general, I would say that it is worth the risks just for good will and the fact that some folks have traded their 3rd Gens because of the shitty tune. From my experience and what is being posted, the hardware is really freaking good. Just a 2mb file is fucking it all up.

I'm just about to cross 30k. The last 20 have been on 04B13 and it was a major change on mine.

Looks like i can get a cable for for between $20 and $70. Of course I can also pay the dealer to update as well. Then on top of that I’ll have to send out a new email to Matt so he can send me the OFT tunes for 04B13.. he’s going to hate me.. :bananadead:

Do not go with the cheap cables. The Tactrix is the only one that has been confirmed to work other than the stupid expensive dealer cables. Pay that $20 for the two way shipping and save yourself the grief.

Yeah. You'll need the updated files. I'm not sure how that all works, but it might get smoothed out with the coming update?

@tonered really appreciate all the info. Guess I’ll fire off an email to Matt for the new tunes and also let everyone know that if anyone wants to loan me their cable for a week I’m willing to toss a $20 in the return box of Venmo or whatever to show my appreciation. I just can’t justify dropping $100 for a cable that I’ll only use one time. Not in any rush. Happy to wait till after 2.0 drops to limit the effort Matt has to exert sending me files lol.

    You are very welcome!

For a single use, I can certainly understand that, since that was my reasoning also.

Wish there was a way to update with the OFT. Oh well.

I agree, but it is based on TS which is Windows only as far as I know.

If you do get a Tactrix in hand or meet up with folks, be sure to go through the dealer customisations, like turning off the seatbelt chimes, number of one touch blinks, and such.

Well boys, i got the update done today. Im on 4A7100 now. Complained that the engine surged at 60-80 km/hr.

At first, the advisor said its for AT only and i said its for MTs as well. He went on his computer to check and realized there is tsb for MT as well.

I only drove about 20 km on it, so not much, but i did notice a bit more torque down low? Or am i just imagining things? im not sure. I mean my truck drove fine before, my biggest complain still is the throttle response, but its not a huge deal, ive learned to live with it.

I obviously didnt read the whole thread, but what were the biggest changes for some of you guys?

    Nice work!

Yes, there definitely is a small power bump. I could pull hills on gear higher than before.

Relaxed shifting was the biggest benefit for me.

    Thanks!

I really hoped that the update would improve the throttle response, but it seems to be the same. I cant wait to drive it some more on hills and see how it is.

I did notice some extra panties in the box today, thought it was a bit weird. Must be the update then.

So has anyone managed to get this update applied in Northern Virginia? Just got shot down for the 5th time and I'm running out of options here.
