You significantly increase the risk of bricking your ECM by using a "cheap" cable. Cheap is in quotes because the Tactrix cable is not really that expensive in the grand scheme of things. IMHO the risk associated with cheap "mongoose" cables is not worth the risk. Don't get me wrong, I had one to use Techstream on my 2nd gen, but I threw it in the garbage rather than pass it along to anyone else once I got the Tactrix. Also, there is no permenant brick with this ECM unless you do physical (electrical) damage to it. It can be recovered.

Thank you sir! The one I have was only about $30-40 I believe. It connects to my vehicle via Techstream but I've never flashed anything. I only use it to change settings and program a couple keys for flip fobs. Probably best not to use this one.

Well that was way easier than I expected. I guess I'm all ready for when my cable gets delivered.

Edit:. Thanks @Shellshock for the step by step guide, that's what made it so simple.

I need to look into AvE. I haven't ran into a goat since 2018.

He's a YouTuber that talks tools, manufacturing, and much random BS.

I haven't seen a goat. I did see some rams in Wenatchee and BC.

Success! Those status bars have to be the slowest status bars in the history of status bars. Or maybe it was just the nerves.

Also did the DTC, LV, and AT resets. Just finished the 5 minute idle. Time for a test drive!

Yeah, just follow the checklist from the first post and then read the onscreen prompts carefully before you start clicking things.

leaving the neighborhood it had somewhat jerky slow shifts. Like leaving the clutch in too long and then letting it out too fast at slightly too slow of a speed in a manual. All that went away after 5-ish miles.

Being able to flash a TSB update in the garage makes me feel special. Thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread! Lots of work went into making this so simple for the rest of us.

The first few miles after a Reset can be wonky. But, it is a clean slate for you.

Right to repair is seriously good for those that choose it.

    Enjoy the flash!

What cable do you use? I am in Canada.....been thinking about picking one up from Amazon. Seem to run about $30 shipped from China.
