What are the risks of doing a TSB without a battery maintainer???

Can I just hook my truck up to a running car with jumpers??

Techstream won't let you flash the ecu if the voltage is too low. I flashed without a maintainer and didn't have a problem. YMMV though

I’ve never flashed with anything other than the truck shut off and everything turned off. Lights, radio, screen display, seat heaters.... everything. Flashed fine every time. Same with updating tsb and never had an issue.

Thanks and cool. And TSBs are really as easy as plugging in and clicking the cuw file and following the directions? Do I got to open techstream first or just click the cuw file??

How long does it take? I imagine running the OBD/Tactrix can't be too much draw.. Still, glad @StraightHardCore asked this question. I was just wondering/asking it m'self as I seen it posted on all the guides/walk-throughs.

If it's your first time connecting to the truck then I would open TS to make sure you have it all set up correctly. Then close TS and it's as simple as opening the cuw and reading instructions.

I think mine took around 10 minutes. It feels like an eternity the first time, but that's just your nerves lol.

that's what I did too, since it was my first time. opened up tech stream, change a window setting just to make sure my tractrix cable was working as intended. once confirmed, I exited out of tech stream and launched the cuw upgrade file.

one other thing I'll point out is that during the updating process all of the subsystems will report an error -- I got a constant stream of radar not working, ABS not working, etc, etc. of course everything was back to normal once the process was done.

Took all of 6/7 minutes first time if I remember correctly. That’s only because I was cautious and read everything word for word :)

You dont need to do anything. Just make sure your battery is over 12v (it’s the first check it does) and you’ll be fine. Shut off all accessories(lights, radio, etc) when flashing. It takes about 5 minutes unless you are a super old ecu, it’ll be closer to 10.

Have someone wanting me to tune their 2016 tacoma. Dealer just flashed the truck using TSB-0077-16

Does this update the truck to 04b04

I think that is an obsolete TSB that might have updated him to something lower than 04B04. You'll have to look at the TSB to see.

If you are flashing him, you can certainly do the TSB update to 04B04.

I got tired of screwing around with the new drivers on techstream and just took that PC back to bestbuy.

I can flash tunes using my work computer, but I cannot update TSB's. Something to do with me not being able to turn off some security features.

If that’s the first tsb your 2016 has seen you’ll be very impressed with the changes just at stock level.

I just hang around and share little known facts in my spare time. I guess that makes me Cliff. The heavy lifting was done by the others you tagged.

"They did a study between postal workers and chimpanzees. They proved chimps were 32 percent slower. Of course, they were better with public relations."

The Tactrix is handy. I know it works on Mazdas also.

You never know. You might end up with OVT also.
