    1. It is a Stock tune straight from Toyota.

    2. The vF Tactrix is made by Tactrix. It works great. Any reliable OBD adapter can do the work. It is just that the Tactrix is the least expensive option that is reliable.

    3. If you have TechStream installed, you can get the ECU ID by hitting Health Check on the power train ECUs, but simply, the latest available ECU IDs are 04B14 for the 2017 MTs and 04B04 for the 2017 ATs. Note that 04B05 is being delivered on replacement ECUs from Toyota, so we will probably see a TSB for that soon.

Have we seen / know the difference between 04b04 / 05 is it going to be worth updating ?

It was said that there is almost no difference, but the same was said for the difference between 04B13 and 04B14. I would never go back to 04B13 Stock or Tuned. My best guess is that 04B05 should be the same calibration as 04B33, 04B81, 04B14, etc.

We'll have to see what the eventual TSB says, what OVT offers on the new update utility, or what folks feel when they try it out.

    Oh man.

I'm hoping that the latest TSBs (TsB-0043-20 and TSB-0092-20) stay stabile for a while, but 04C01 and 04C21 doesn't give me much hope.

Holy Hanna! With TSB-0043-020 Rev. 1, it comes with a brand new ( p/n 89661-04L12 ) ECU engine module?? Good grief. Luckily the TSB is good until 80k miles and since I'm only at 6k so far I have time to think about it LOL...

The firmware update rolls the part number. No hardware is replaced.

Those are there if there would be a need to order a new ECU. From the supplier, it would come preloaded with 04B42. Flashing the ECU with the TSB creates that new part number.

So then we should really be adding a new label to the module when we do a TSB ourselves, so there is no mismatch between the label and the ECU ID then, I'm assuming? Which means it would be easier to just have the dealer do all TSB updates.

I don't see a reason. The hood label is just a gov requirement that dealers rarely do. They don't relabel the actual ECU. TIS would likely tell them that there is a superseding part number regardless.

It is rarely easy to have the dealer do a TSB update, but you can certainly try. This thread is filled with the tears of those that tried.

I had one done at the dealer and they didn't add the under hood label. Much easier to do yourself. The module reports the correct (updated) part number when interrogated. I wouldn't be surprised if the box level has a different higher level part number printed on it that doesn't roll with the update.

Does the truck need to be off or in accessory mode when flashing the TSB?

Yea once I opened up the update I realized it had a walk-through. Just did the TSB update, I really appreciate all the help and quick turnaround with any questions asked. Thank you!

I saw @tonered post up a TS V16 link a while back which is now broken. Any trusted source for a V16 download? Those random sites that pop up in a web search make it feel like I should give my computer a bath. Figure if I am jumping through the hoops to get activation key and never updating, might as well have a recent version.

The stuff on MHHauto.com has been good for me. I have not run into any issues yet, so it has been worth the on time cost to register.

    Noob question...

If I want to load KDMax tune on a 2016 AT Taco, but I haven't read the ECU, that means it could come with any of these ECU ID's 04B00, 04B01, 04B02, 040B3, 04B04? And the highest CUW file I can load on that Taco is 04B04? but if it already has 04B04, then I can't update anymore and I just need that version of KDMax file from @PapaRee ?
