Is it possible to mail our ECU to someone for the flash? I havent looked at pulling the ECU, but I can't imagine it's all that difficult. Even if someone did an ECU exchange/loan program, I imagine that would work too.

You might have a deal. If not, I will be down your way in the next month to go to Duke. Any IPA's in Asheville that you like? this is beer capital.

There's an ancient Chinese proverb in there somewhere.

Cross your fingers. It might arrive early.

    Success!!

Carlson Toyota in Coon Rapids, MN did the update for me, here's the journey:

    1) Called and made an appointment for them to plugin Techstream and do a health-check (didn't mention anything else, no symptoms, nothing).

    2) Walked in this morning and the service manager asks me why I may be checking for updates I broke straight to the chase and let him know the existing 04B10 04B11 04B12, ECM update should be up to 04B13. I asked if I could be present for the health-check, to which they said yes.

    3) Tech plugged in, computer stated their was and update, showed the 0058-18 TSB, pointed out the ECM numbers pertaining to manual, didn't really have to describe symptoms other than I've had them and reported them in the past. Talked about the mapping and Tacomaworld findings, etc.

    4) Tech checked with service manager to see if it was okay, service manager approved.

    5) BAM! Updated.

What I can say in my short, traffic-riddled drive to work (9.8 miles took 40 minutes due to construction):
    • No-buck in 1st, 2nd gear upon take off!
    • No nose-dive feathering off throttle in stop and go traffic!
    • Smooth, linear acceleration!
    • Huge improvement from 04B12 that was installed!
    • Can't wait to rip around after work and see what it can do!

Big thanks to @Ruggybuggy for making us aware, this is how the Taco should have rolled off the lot!

I was very surprised they played ball from no test drive to letting me hang out in the shop.

The hanging out in the shop is the big one. I miss the days when you could at least wander to the bay where your car was hanging out.

They stand the chance of making a decent amount of money doing these quick though. They might have seen a decent number of ATs come through already.

Any down side to getting this done now? You think they'll make changes and updates to it?

The improvements are too good to pass up. My thought is that, given the general dealer reluctance, I will update it on my own with a borrowed cable. If it all goes well, I will get my own cable, esp with @pinochle 's feedback on the inexpensive cable, and be ready for any improvements that might come later.

Update from my dealervisit : got seat belt chime off, tech confirmed weep and clutch squeak so parts are on order for next week, confirmed rear howling so will be doing the tsb for that and also the high pitch manual trans noise said he might as well do that too.

When I had him do the health check he said the tsb for ecu update was At only but when I mentioned it to him he said he'll take care of it when I'm in next week just to ask for him..itll be off the books and not on the invoice because they can't say they completed it. All in all one hell of a visit. I will be calling Toyota corp to praise the help today. Which I'm sure if a refreshment for them.

Oh ,and the service manager is putting a 4runner loaner aside for me next week.

Round two, just left it with a different dealer with my corporate case number, the TSB print out with highlighted notes, and my phone number if they have questions. Fingers crossed
