Get this done and you will be back to driving a manual the way it should be without all the petal guess work and clunking around. Super happy. Get this done!

Tape is reversible as long as you don't seal it with JBWeld. Hahaha!

Thanks! That's my guess also. No worries. Although, if it was a work truck, I'd be at it with an axe.

Totally! Speed bumps are nicer now. I am thinking about the zerk in the slip joint though.

That's interesting. It's easy to check. I pulled the cluster to take a pic of my Taco Truck easter egg when doing the vent ring stickers:

    IMG_20180204_121912.jpg

That was before I heard the speaker was back there.

I also have zerks on the front shaft. May 2017 build?

I just got back from the dealer. No hassles at all. I paid $56 it was worth it not to have to try to convince them to do it for free.

I'm happy with how it drives. I won't repeat what everyone else has said. I'll just say that the most remarkable thing about this tune is how completely unremarkable it is. It took a gimmicky driving experience and made it just feel normal.

The only observation that I haven't seen others make is that they really neutered DFCO and in a good way. No more lurching when decelerating past 1400 rpms. Even more impressive is that I no longer get a clunk when taking my foot off the gas at highway speeds or when applying gas after coasting. It used to feel like there was a ton of slop in the driveline, now all transitions are smooth and natural.

It's just shows how some dealership's knowledge of their product is lacking when a customer has to pay for a tsb that applies and should be done for free. Maybe give Toyota corporate a call and see if you can get reimbursed.

I can't stress enough for people to send emails to Toyota Customer Care regarding this issue. It seems that we are starting to get some traction to help the entire population of 6 cylinder manual transmission 3rd Gen models. This will save a lot of people headaches. I have first hand experience on how this process works in a large manufacturer. There are triggers that cause action, and those triggers do not happen unless the number of particular complaints reach a certain level. Only a few of the dealer complaints make it to the corporate level. The emails sent to corporate are all logged.

I just spent 15 minutes on the phone with a service representative. She was very polite and walked through the TSB with me. She said that she's not allowed to give official advice as to whether or not it should be applied, but she said that what I was saying seemed to be correct. She created a separate case number aside from the dismissive email response I got previously. She also noted the issue I was having, how it's being discussed on the forums, and that certain dealers (like Karl Malone in Utah) are denying service and some (like Dick Dyer in Columbia, SC) are providing the service. I'm going to another dealership this afternoon with a printed TSB and my new case number to see if they can do it.

Mine is at the dealership as we speak. The advisor said the issue is how they would bill Toyota for it. Seemed receptive though. I'll keep you fools updated!

Excellent. I really think we are starting to get some traction here. Come on guys, keep calling and/or sending emails directly to Toyota customer service.
I have an appointment with my dealer on Friday. I am also going to provide them with a copy of the TSB and my Incident Number provided by Toyota Customer Service.

That’s really great news! How fantastic that they’re listening and listening to reason.

Thanks for posting your accounts of failed attempts and successful discussions.

Got mine flashed today at my 5k mile service. Service manager was terrible, but after I stopped dealing with him and talked to his boss, they ran the health check and did the update for me. I've only driven it a few miles but it's much better. Throttle response is better, low end is no longer useless, no hesitation at 3200-3500 rpm and getting better mpg (same exact trip ~5 miles on highway used to get 17.5mpg average. It showed 22.2 mpg). Will keep an eye on it when I drive it to/from work for the rest of the week (~70 miles/day).

I wasn't sure, but I thought there is a bit of change in the exhaust?

So I just had the TSB upgrade for my ‘18 DCSB MT an hour ago with my 5k oil change and it’s like driving a totally different truck. I was regretting the purchase of the ‘18 and sale of my ‘12 ACLB MT sport but this changes my resolve, entirely. The lurch and stutter are gone. Such a better driving experience. I definitely gave toyota this feedback after the purchase with both the initial and a follow up feedback/clarification request, though they never indicated this TSB was in the works. I’m so happy to have this addressed, now I can unequivically recommend a new taco MT purchase to anyone.
