Thanks I will also confirm that T-0037-18 is what we tried to use.

Just dropped the truck off at the dealer for the 10k service and they are going to run a health check to find the update. :fingerscrossed:

No apologies! Asking questions is what it is all about.

We're just generically calling it a Tactrix cable, but it really is the OBD adapter and miniUSB cable combination. I highly doubt that the USB cable is anything special, but you never know. If I bought one, I'd keep the cable and adapter together.

The official Tactrix that I borrowed worked on both my 2017 and a 2018.

There is a drop down menu when first launching the update. Once it is set to Tactrix, I think it sticks. Just something to check?

As long as TS is working with at least Version 12.10.019, you shouldn't have a problem? The ECU update will launch just clicking on the CUW file. TS will not work for diagnostics and customizations on a 2018 with that version though.

is there a rental program for the cable and windows 10 computer? Not sure any dealer remotely close to me will even perform a health check to see if updates are available. It seems they believe I am an ignorant customer (probably true) and dont know any better

I have only ever used 89 and I still have the occasional surge.

Well the dealer just called me and said they couldn’t find any update :frusty:Unfortunately it’s not uncommon for this dealer to be a huge disappointment

Sorry man. I wonder if they actually hooked it up to check. Most people here claim that once it’s hooked up that it does show there is a valid update. Sucks to hear bro. Don’t give up. We will all get it eventually.

Any ideas on how to get the dealership to perform the update? I've brought my truck in twice stating that it is surging especially in second gear and that there is a tsb out on it. They are aware of the tsb, but state that they cannot duplicate the surging. Instead they did the recall for the AC blower

The surge was easy to replicate on my 2017. 2nd or 3rd gear. Cruising at low-ish RPMs (around 2k). Smoothly and quickly go from light to 1/2 or 3/4 throttle. Feel the surge.

The surge is still there after the update, but nothing like it was.

I never bothered with the dealer though.

Jeez though. Replicating the surge isn't the hard part about getting the dealer to updated the ECU.

consider yourself lucky you didn't need to deal with all the driveability issues many of us have had. seriously, that's not a letdown, that's your shit being good to begin with. so many like me were struggling to even drive the truck normally.

I think there were a lot of differences between the different computer versions. While I had one of the more recent versions (12) prior to the update, I am happy with the changes the update brought. Those who came from 10 I think it was a much bigger change.

Just got back from the track, towed about 2000 lbs or so. The TSB is worse compared from 1.04 as far as towing is concerned. I had to grab 5th much more often while also using much more of the gas pedal. I averaged 1 less mpg over about 400 miles.

Around town with no load the truck is great, highway in 6th has less response then 1.04 but is better then stock was. On the beach in deep sand with 5 adults in the truck and a full bed of food, beers, etc also performed well pretty well but was still slightly less responsive then 1.04.

Dealership refused to apply the update because the health checked showed it was for an automatic. They proceeded to educate me on why my manual transmission was different than an automatic. Guess I’ll be buying a cable!

i would carefully write down their edumacation details and read it back to them when the TSB is released with the correct info. in a slow and steady tone with good eye contact.

Just picked up the truck. They stuck with their story of “the healthcheck did not show any updates available,” but couldn’t tell me what the current calibration id is. The guy at the counter didn’t even understand what I was asking. So for now I guess I’ll just enjoy it as is. I don’t really feel like I have too many issues, but thought if it could be even better, then great.

For reference my Tacoma had a build date of 5/17.

I painfully explained everything to them, three times, as nice as I could. They just flat refused becaus
update on my end. Grabbed my pickup from the dealer and was told the tech actually researched the issue online and believed what I was telling them; however, because they couldn’t bill Toyota for the labor they didn’t install the update.

I can respect that, though I don’t agree with it.

Is transmission learning for autos only? Some automatic drivers with the update are reporting the transmission going back to their old tricks. Any manual brethren reporting any changes?

I get it now...(forgive me, you're new (welcome btw) and won't get the context of my response so much)

It's not that they don't trust the TSB Update, it's not that they don't even trust TS (the lazy ones probably dont)

They don't trust that the Mother Corp will reimburse them for their efforts.

The tech in your case will likely do well in his course of career...the bean counter who disregarded a huge sum of customer service goodwill, was worth much less than the billing of 1 hour labour, for a 5 minute job, that could be performed in the parking lot...should be fired
