So something weird... I brought my truck in for the clutch squeak, and they replaced the clutch pedal assembly, and the clutch master cylinder.

Since getting my truck back, shifting is very smooth, with no stumble, and while the power spike at about 3,600 RPM is still there, it's no longer "VTEC yo". I'm also seeing a bump in fuel economy.

None of this makes sense. I checked the work order and there's no mention of them having done an update. When I brought it in, I did say it had some surging issues, but that was not recorded on the work order.

I'm thinking it could be, from most likely to least likely:
    • My imagination (Occam's Razor).
    • Significantly lower temperatures this week are leading to better performance from air density. Normally I have only noticed this on turbo engines, but hey, who knows!
    • Perhaps something was reset and it's "re-learning"? Do the manuals "learn"?
    • I got a "golden" tank of fuel. Higher octane fuel tends to be less surge-y on my truck.
    • They did the update, but didn't record it on the work order.
    So... thoughts?

Thought I felt the same. Had gone in for the squeak and surging. Mentioned both tsb’s. Only got ok’ed for the squeak. When I got it back felt smoother like maybe they had also just done the surging tsb but not put it down officially. But now that it has been a few days, felling less smooth and pretty much back to before.

But squeak is at least gone.

Yup. So it turns out I do have a code reader... but I left it at the track in my garage. Sigh. Will check later, but thanks.

I am experiencing something similar. I took mine in for the blower recall. I mentioned the update and the service writer says that the tech will plug it in anytime they do recall work and if and update pops up they do it. When the work was a done a different service writer wrote me out and said there is no mention of an update. My butt swears the truck is driving different. I feel like it pulls better now without down shifting. I feel like it has more take off. I’m sure it’s all in my head. I checked under the hood and there is no ECU update sticker.

All may apply. On my Tacomas (6 in 30 years), the clutch mainly squeaks when it's hot, and New Mexico that's pretty warm. I assume they would report employing the update if they did it. Conundrum.

Filed a complaint with Toyota last week and they just replied to me today. They told me they spoke with engineers and confirmed this has nothing to do with a manual transmission at all. They couldn't explain why a MT ECU is listed either. Basically told me that I was a dumbass for trying to get mine updated.

I think it's letter writing time, although they'll just confer with engineering and say the same thing.

Moreover, how the fuck can they explain that TWO CUW files exist that update M/T trucks! LOL, exactly ZERO M/T Tacomas rolled off the line with 04B13 code in their ECUs... yet that calibration now mysteriously exists. AND it fixes the previous ass-hattery code.

Well just got Tactrix cable in the mail today! Excellent service and fast 2 day shipping.

Followed all the posts on this thread and others on the forum. Thank you to all who have posted!!

After much hesitation and nerves I finally opened the cuw file and followed all on screen instructions. After about 5 minutes later, everything complete and truck started right up. Took for a short drive around town and defiantly felt a difference. Can't wait to test drive to work tomorrow some more.

Anyone in NorCal who wants the update, pm me and i am glad to help!

I wish someone near Virginia would get it done. LOL!!!

Eventually I will bite the bullet, but I'm just waiting to get to the dealer and try the closer dealer at least one time before trying myself. I have everything loaded on our extra computer though, so I'm halfway there LOL!
