Will a self tuner get a carb cert when buying tune files?

Do you have a local guy near 92139? Want to switch from KDMAX to be safe.

Here's a map of all of the OTT tuners across the country. Zoom in on your area and click on the closest tuner for their contact info.

Congrats on the progress with CARB cert for the 3.5. I just read through this all, please correct me where incorrect. There are a just enough details here that I am picking up multiple answers to the same questions based on who is including which details, so I am seeking to sort the details out to understand if I would get bitten by gotchas or not if I were to flash my '23. I have never flashed a vehicle, but have been flashing EEPROMS since before USB was a standard.

I understand the older 3rd gens can access a recently updated stock file to "return to stock" which actually provides the OEM checksum as you removed encryption of some of your parameters which protected your reverse engineering work, which is understandable.

I see a separate track where some people are saying only the models old enough to require smog (6-yrs) have had their OTT-provided stock files unencrypted to actually report the OEM checksum.

My question relates to returning to stock such that the newer trucks which do not require periodic smog yet can reflash to stock such that the OEM checksum is reported. For me this is important for dealer warranty and potentially selling before the truck is 6 years old. In the last few pages it seems others have had the same question but I am unsure of the correct answer.

For my '23 3.5L, can I return to stock such that the checksum is reported as the correct OEM checksum if:

1: I have a tuner do it using only OTT-provided files?
2: I have a tuner do it but ask them to provide me a copy of my stock file such that I can save it?
3: If I buy vftuner, download my stock file and save it before flashing?
4: If I buy vftuner and download the stock file via vftuner?

Thanks for any clarification on this, and for addressing a fairly critical need for the 3rd gen.

did I miss the post or is this now only valid for CA emission tests? (I'm in Douglas Co, CO - which I think checks this)

This is valid for any state that is checking the ECU for modifications. So an updated tune and the CARB EO# are needed and legal in CO now.

I believe you will need the most up-to-date tune from them.

As @PacoTheTaco303 stated, you will need our most recent file - "OTT-CE" or "OTT SEMA" (released 1/1/2024). Earlier OTT 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0 files are not eligible under the CARB-EO.

What if we have the updated tune but don't have the certificate? I got mine done in either April or May of this year.

Hey AJ! I’ll be sending out a form soon to fill out your mailing address (and to anyone else tuned after 1/1/2024) then i’ll be sending out the certs and a CARB sticker with them along with some other goodies (at no charge to you). Anyone tuned with OTT prior to 1/1/24 just needs the SEMA-CE tune ($50, includes registering it in our database and all certs/stickers and is bookable on my site).
