Today I went to go get my 2020 Taco TRD-offroad tuned. The tech got everything set up but he was having trouble connecting to my ECU. We were receiving power to the OBD connector and all the fuses were good. Earlier in the day he told me he tuned a 3rd gen without any issue, so it couldn't been his equipment that wasn't working. He tried everything he could but nothing worked. He told that he will contact the creator of the tune and ask him a couple questions.

When I got home I tried connecting my own OBD adapter and I as well wasn't able to connect to the ECU. My guess is that the pins do not have a secure connection to the wires or whatever you call them.

    What should I do?

    02/25/24 update:
I found a couple loose pin connectors in my OBD port. I was able to pull them out and tighten them. Once everything was put back together, my OBD adapter had zero issues connecting to the ECU. I found a video on how to repair the pins with the exact OBD port my Tacoma has.

If you have any warranty left, take it in
If not start looking for damaged wiring, rodent damage is usually covered under homeowners insurance

I just had mine tuned, and the OTT tuning technician had to pull my radio fuse as he stated that some aftermarket head units (I have a Sony) cause interference with communications with computer when doing updates and tuning. He also mentioned that extra accessories connected up to the battery might also be a factor when tuning. Not sure if you’ve added anything to yours. Once fuse pulled, updates and tune all went through. Once fuse reinstalled, all good, runs great.
