I put a want ad on Craigslist and found this one for $350 about two weeks in. I bought a roof rack off of a junk 4runner and put on it.

As others have said, they are very specific especially for the first gen double cabs. My truck had a shell on it when I bought it used but it was falling apart. It took me a solid 9 years to find another one in good shape. Sold my old one for $250 and bought the one in good condition (with all glass in tact I might add) for $300. Color doesn’t match but neither did the old one.

keep looking, you’ll find a good one eventually.

Yupp... 1st gen double cab toppers are not easy to find. I spent over a year looking because I was very picky and even then I got super lucky I found the topper with windoors I wanted local to me.

You are absolutely the MAN. Thanks for all that info! And for putting me onto the bedrug, wouldn't have even thought about that.

I found a guy a couple hours away on facebook marketplace that has a topper in my color, with the exact windows I'd like...and he responded "yes" that it was available, and has ignored every other message. Driving me absolutely nuts! Maybe I offered too little, but he said OBO. He won't even engage. I'll keep an eye out on craigslist with those search parameters. Thanks bro!!

Back in the day there was a lot of interchangeability. If you had a full size truck (other than Jeep) with an 8' bed they all fit. On a short bed Chevy and Dodge were the same, Ford about 2" longer, same width. Toyota and Nissan were the same with short and long beds. Jeep trucks were the only oddball. Short beds were 7' and long beds 8', but both were narrower than anyone else.

But today, especially with fiberglass tops they are all different. Sometimes you can make one from another model work and you may have to look pretty close to see that the fit isn't perfect.

You could always build your own camper shell.
Mine was super easy. It’s only taken about 3 weeks with maybe another few days till it’s totally done.

Thanks, I actually don't advise people build their own camper. It's a lot of work. By 3 weeks I mean 168 hours X 3.

Anyway, before the camper I had a snugtop Hi Liner that worked pretty well.
I used https://www.searchtempest.com/ to search a large area of craigslist and found one about 4 hours away in great condition for $320.
Just keep searching and you'll find your camper shell.
    Good Luck!

Another Pro Tip: don't start the haggling until you've seen it in person. If I get messaged by some douche who wants to lowball me before he's even seen it- he gets blocked.

That's an excellent point. I ignore low ballers as well. If they're close I tell them to come see it and make an offer then.

    Getting there
Snug top super sport is an amazing fit as well as I go through those high pressure car washes that have the air systems blowing stupid hard...NO LEAKS..rain no leaks the snow storm no leaks...

I will say being the pop up lock on T- handle you may have to heat up your key when inserting it if it freezes and dumps....it likes to freeze up a smidge..not an issue and easy to remedy...

No wind noise my mpg seems to be a bit better on freeway no drag from tailgate....city it goes down a smidge not really noticeable but long hauls 65mph I got upwards of 20....

03 dbl cab- I had one off of an old Colorado that was close, it was about a half inch over on the sides and 3/4 off the back and the shape wasn’t perfect but nobody could tell but me. I eventually got luck and found a paint matched tacoma shell. Just keep an eye on marketplace until one shows.
