Les Schwab up here has a similar style, don't think it's the same brand but I use them on my government vehicle all the time.

Why wouldn't you guys run cables on all 4? I bought some z6 and want to know your thoughts?

I don't think you can run chains/cables on our trucks. The manual says only put them on the rear or they will hit the upper control arms.

Need something for icy/snowy weather. Those chains are relatively low clearance. Cables would definitely be less clearance but they tend to break easier.

They do. Just depends on size. Won't fit 285 for example.

Chains or cables only get applied to the drive axle (or rear, in the case of 4WD). And yes, you can apply them to a Tacoma

Les Schwab used to buy back unused chains.

Still do  even think they do if very lightly used.

You may want to check O'Reilly's. I just called and inquired about cables that would fit 285/70/17 and they have them in stock. I'm really having a hard time deciding if I really need them for my trip this weekend. Spending $100 with a chance I might not even need them has held me back. I have snow rated tires and 4x4 but the mountains down here are supposed to get hammered.

Buy them and return afterwards. If you don't use them they should take them back, especially if it's only a weekend trip. I would rather have them and not need them.

If CHP asks to see them and you don't have them you will get a ticket or turned around.

Nonrefundable. Most places you buy them from will tell you ahead of time.

My buddy has a set of chains but don't fit my tires. Thinking about just bringing them along and flashing them if asked to see them. I'm almost certain I won't need chains, but I know you are required to carry them.

Went a head and purchased a set from 4WheelParts. I will pick them up on my way up on Friday. they were $115 plus tax. They had a small coupon and used Ebates to get 3 or 4% cash back as well.

I have 265/75-16s on stock alloy wheels and there is no cable made that will safely fit on the front. There is less than 1/4" of clearance between the sidewall and the bump on the knuckle. Probably closer to 1/8" than 1/4". Try to run your hand back there and see what you have. If you have maybe half an inch of clearance static and at full stuff them you might get away with one of these very low clearance cable options. But if they come apart you could easily damage something like an ABS sensor.

You aren't suppose to chain the front, only the rear on tacomas. Says it in the manual.

So, the "S" class cable does not apply?

Manuals are written around stock configuration and to the lowest common denominator. Look at how many folks show up on TW asking if it's possible without having ever stepped out to their garage or carport and physically checking their actual clearance first. If the manual didn't say that many people would chain up the front, tear things up, and go to the dealer demanding a repair.

If I were to run 235/85-16s with the correct wheels I could run S class cables long enough to get me off an icy mountainside If I were to install longer studs and 3/8" spacers or just install standard spacers in the winter I wouldn't need the 235s. But then we are talking about non-stock configurations and all the risk is on the owner. A manual can't cover those scenarios.

I just saw this is 3rd Gen.

Gonna check it out my self. My T100 takes them fine. 265 70 16, 265 75 15, 31 10.5 16. Chains in the back cables in the front. Makes for better steering.
