Hope it works for you. My Tacoma is 2nd gen too (2011) and any cables are a no go. Some of the places I go the most important thing is to have chains on the front.

FYI if you are near San Bruno, CA. Melody Toyota has a 25% off coupon available Expires 3/31/17. Other dealers may have the same deal going on. I would not get them in time and purchased from 4WheelParts.

    One difference I noticed.
    Super Z6
Z Performance for cars, pickup & SUVs with very limited operating clearance around the drive tires.
EXCEEDS ---------S.A.E. Class “S clearance requirements on vehicles with limited clearance.
it will operate in less than half the space required by most cable chains and tire chains.
To be more precise, it requires only 6.3 mm (1/4″) of operating space in the critical inside sidewall area of the tire (typical Class “S” products require 15mm).
    *************************
    Z® (SUV/LT)
Z Performance for SUVs, light trucks and 4x4s that meets Class “S”.
MEETS --------------S.A.E. Class “S” clearance requirements or vehicles with limited clearance.

I don't expect to. I'm in the same dilemma of living in California so if anything these are for "just in case" moments

This. YNP is also terrible at maintaining the roads when it snows. HWY 120 will be clear and literally when you pass the gate ice ice ice.

I carry chains because CA requires it, but they don't fit.

If funding wasn't such an issue, things could be a whole lot better across the board for the whole park. Call your legislators.

I bought my tacoma used and it came with 265/70r17s. I'm going up to big bear next month and was looking at chains. Anybody run this setup with chains or can confirm they will fit?

You can buy semi-universal chains. Just look on the packaging and it typically list the range of tire sizes that fits.

They make all sizes. I have cables for my wife’s small tires on her car and chains for my Tacoma -> 265 75r16s.

It’s required to carry them in the winter here in the Sierras.

Did you read what it says about chains in the manual?

yep, but those specs (.2" side chain and .25" cross chain) in the manual are for the stock tires correct (265/65r17)? If so, the 265/70r17 are 13.25mm (.52") taller from the edge of the rim to the top of the tire which already exceeds what is recommend chain size in the manual. so if we are talking fractions of an inch, then every fractions of an inch matters (that's what she said) right?

Appreciate the info: using your tire specs, the total height of your tire including the rim is 31.64"; mine are 31.61"; stock 265/65/17 are 30.56". i was concerned on how the larger tire size might affect the chain specs provided in the manual.

I used to carry chains for my IS300 I lived in reno. been in vegas for since 2008 so haven't had to worry about it for years.
