Its being predicted there is the possibility that parts of Georgia will get 2 to 4 inches of snow. The governor has preemptively declared a state of emergency. Ya just can't make this shit up and the timing couldn't be any better for this thread. :)

At this point it's more of a certainty for much of the northern part of the state.

Main point for "state of emergency" is that it allocates resources to state and local agencies if needed. Also enables restrictions on trucks requiring chains if conditions do get bad. More an administrative thing than officials running around with their hair on fire.

Still, the government got reamed three years ago when the highways were ice filled parking lots blocked by stuck tractor trailers. It took many people hours to get home and a lot ended up sleeping in their cars.

Unsurprising that with the first real snow forecast in three years they'll react to the other extreme.

So part of me says yes it is ridiculous to declare a state of emergency for 4 inches of snow. On the other hand, if it only happens once every 3-5 years and people there don't know how to drive in it then maybe it makes sense. Keep people off the roads.

And they have very few resources to clear the roads properly.

I've been in that Canadian snow in Kamloops, BC. Went 4 wheeling with ex in-laws to go ice fishing. Quite a view to see when snow berms 6 ft high are the road markers in the country. That is some nice powder up there in -12C temps.

We are in the middle of another little storm. 4 to 6 are inches expected with 1/4" of ice forecasted for the wee hours tomorrow. There are about 2 inches on the ground already. I just drove to the store to buy a 12 pack of Deschutes Fresh Squeezed so I had beer to enjoy during the football games this weekend and even stopped at a local brew pub to partake of one of their fine IPAs. No plows have run, no sand has been put down, no salt or salt molasses solution had been sprayed at the intersections. It's 19 F and the stuff is super slick on the road and it's nearly impossible to keep the windshield clear. Yet the roads are packed with people going about their business. My wife and daughter are still out in it with nothing but all season tires on the car. No worries, it isn't a snowpocalypse. It's not even an event.

Anyone know anywhere to get 285/70/17 ? I got some CHains from 4wheelers but they were like 140.

Question 2 I've been reading chains are bad for 4x4 and cables should be used in the rear wheels ? What if chains are the only avail for tire size? And last Do u continue to use 4hi with chains ? Or go on 2w

You want chains or cables? All these Peerless models fit that size. Then go find them on Amazon.

Which brings me to my next question! And thanks a lot guys! Is chains bad for 4x4 or it doesn't matter? I read it's bad for 4x4 and cables should be used instead ?

I use cables because of their snugness around the tire. Chains have lots of play across the bands. Could potentially rub the wheel well.

    Opinion alert:
    YMMV

If I need chains, I am slow and in 4wd. Chains mainly serve the purpose of stopping. Going is much easier without chains.
Cables are easier to use but much less aggressive. They may work for what you want.
Some vehicle manufacturers have specified the requirement of "S" class chains. Like my Subaru. They are cables. I cannot use chains on the Subaru without damage.
I have only used chains recently on the T100, not the Tacoma. I chain the back and cable the front because of clearance concerns. I cannot chain the front without damage, so I use cables.
I do not leave any loose chains to flop around.

Wow who woulda thunk. Square chain links for better grip.
But, why the "Ca" link if they are made in Colorado?
