This is a continuation of the introduction post.

Had a good day on the truck today. Got plugs, wires, distrubutor cap & rotor, valve cover gasket, and seafoamed. a bit of mom's white nail polish saved my ass along with a large 3/8ths extension down the first cylinder when i was trying to get it to TDC.

it took me like 20 minutes to realize the timing marks on the cams are on the friggin backside. i was thinking maybe the marks wore off on mine or something. had moms short ass standing on two garden bricks with a flash light looking for the marks and watching the extension rise lol.

my exhaust manifold is most definitely FUBAR. I need to source a new one from the later year taco and fabricate an entire new exhaust.

heres a few shots from today. supreme anger at the little BS oring on the distributor -_____- been leaking for years probably. shit was petrified. 3 dollar part can cause so much chaos. Also can anyone tell me wth wheels are on this thing? they are ugly as sin and i want to know if they are worth cleaning up to try and sell to fund a new set.

American Racing, circa the mid 90's. Sorry, not sure of the model name/number. They 'should' be polished, not plated, so they 'should' clean up. If you live in a large market, you might hustle them at local drive in car shows or CL for someone doing a retro build or looking for a replacement.

Not the exact wheel, but a cousin, polished alloy.

Looks like an interesting day for sure. Those are american racing wheels, very popular for s10's, blazers, ford rangers, those type vehicles. Was a good seller back in the day, but probably not so much now, unles, like stated above, you find someone looking for a set for a retro or an "old school" look. Truck looks pretty good though!!

I'm really happy with it. I want to fix the broken stuff/maintenance it first before i start modifying stuff. I got a some friends in PA that have been trying to get me to go offroading for years. I never gave it much thought. I was always into lowering cars not lifting them. They have giant lifted jeeps. One has the 5.9 and hauls ass.

Last year i had picked up an F150 out of necessity and that was a fucking nightmare. I poured tons of money into the damn thing to keep it moving and it windowed the block in my sisters driveway. A year later i finally got a new vehicle and figured go with what i know lasts forever (Toyota), a 4wd truck this time, and manual because autotragic hurts my heart.

The suspension needs work but for now, i think my priorities are gonna be the wheel and tire setup. im afraid to pull the wheels. They look to have been on there for the last million years so who knows what im gonna find behind the rusted ass screws holding the centercap on. I want to get a set of real tires on there. the largest i can fit without it rubbing on a stock height. The truck looks dinky AF with the rubber on there now. Tires are mismatched and older then dirt. DOT code reads 04, 08, 11 for the rear 2.

Probably go with some kind of a 31". First thing out of my moms mouth when she saw the truck was "Why are the tires so small? Is that a real truck?" /facepalm lol

Well today was a damn good day. Got deal of a century on some stock 2006 Taco wheels. $150 for the set. Drove an hour away and got lost in the backwoods of MO. Farmer dude was kind enough to let me put it in 4lo and cut across his muddy ass field to get back to the right road. This truck is the shit. Test fit the new wheels. i forgot to take a picture of the caliper but i THINK this thing may have had tundra brakes put on it in the past. are the stock brakes and tundra brakes vastly different in appearance? also these are the factory struts. omfg. 20 years old. found the yota stamp on the strut. this thing almost flipped from jumping around after hitting a pothole at 80. front end nose dived hard as shit. straight tanked.

Your new wheels should have a 3.5" back space. Unless something modified is rubbing now they should work without issue.

Good times. Those wheels had a nice retro look to them, but I think you made a good move upgrading to the new ones. Liking the build thread so far - enjoyable reading. That chevy is a GMC Cyclone - not sure if they're that well known these days - but you can look them up if you're interested. I snagged this pic of one at Harbor Freight the other day:

Did the Cyclone come with that Buick V-6 that was boosted?

That thing is bad ass! Ive always heard of Cyclones but never seen one. I really like that thing. Could see a mean turbo LS swap in it haha. I found a webpage on how to clean up old wheels. im gonna give it a try with the craigslist pickup and try to paint them up. Probably in bedliner lol.

Oops - the "Syclone" was the S10 and the Typhoon was the Jimmy. And yes they came with the boosted V-6.

Chandler rode by like dafuq? hahahaha. Awesome day and im grateful to this forum for letting this happen. I want to work on my truck so much more now. Also badass tractors because tractor

Sounds like a solid plan. Next time we hang out remind me to show you the "Truck-Lite" brand LED replacement headlights that I have in the LandCruiser. They are awesome and relatively inexpensive by comparison to others.
