    Yes, manual everything...even mirrors...
Just noticed some damage on the valve cover where cylinder seal mates from whoever the previous owner let change the spark plug cylinder seals….

could this be why I found a small amount of oil on rubber plug #4???

I don’t want to throw this thing back on if I need to get a new one. I don’t want any leaks whatsoever.

That photo of the tube seals is from the inside of the valve cover right? Believe the oil seal is where those seals rest on top of the tubes, contact them. Would think that area you say is damaged would be to keep stuff from getting into the tubes from outside the engine, the rubber flange on the spark plug wire. Been a bit since I replaced my tube seals but that’s how I remember it. It would be a good time to replace those tube seals while you have that cover off anyway.

from inside yes - that’s where the round cylinder seals seat into. Yes I know - I’m doing everything

    plugs
    Wires
    coil packs
    Gaskets

just wasn’t sure if that little chunk broken off will fuck me or not leak wise. I don’t mind grabbing and new valve cover

I don’t think that ding would cause any oil leakage, maybe lust let dust or such into the tubes worst case. That’s the lip that catches that bulb part in your gloved hand picture. Unless I am mistaken.

Looking at it again, I think you're right. Also checked out the valve cover gasket and the shop monkey who put it torqued that corner (rear passenger) harder than the rest - or so it seems. Noticeably more flattened in that corner.
