I was lurking around YouTube watching different 1996 Tacoma mods and upgrades and came across a guy that is planning to do an EGR delete on his ‘96 Tacoma 2.7? He said “being over 25 years old he can delete it and will be better for the engine”?

    Any truth to that?

egr is supposed to allow the engine too run cooler.....and use a tiny bit less gas....

but its at a great cost later on when it starts gumming up.....

what gums it is an old engine that has dirty exhaust....

the older the engine....faster the carbon builds....

So after the first 150K.....egr system has to be cleaned and check....
or it will cause terrible things to happen depending on whether is stuck open ,,, closed ...
or that intake passage in the throttle body can completely plug....

An as the engine ages and declines the build up accellerates.....
if its stuck open you'll have terrible top end and acceleration.....because its supposed to be closed at that point......

I suspect other ....that is stuck closed....would cause overheating right inbetween the cat and heads......crazy I know.....that maybe why 3rz are prone to head gasket failures......there's way too many......

A ton of manufacturers use egr systems to keep their engines cool....especially service engines....
allows a big cylinder to act a little smaller....tiny bit more efficiency...but its the cooling they are after....

Toyota considers that egr so important ....they run a cooling jacket thru it....
