EGR malfunction (P0400)

Ok TW my CEL came on a couple of months ago with and EGR malfunction code. So I did some research and to see what could be the cause. I've checked all my vacuum lines, however when I go to check for the valve to my surprise I couldn't find it anywhere. Come to find out I don't actually have one. A friend suggested that my 1st when might have been made in Canada where the emissions standards are different. Is there any truth to this? Also if so does anyone have any advice on what I should do next? It's driving me crazy!!!

 

I do not believe that the 3.4's have an EGR valve. I am looking at my 2003 factory manual and they do not mention it on the V6, the 4 cyl yes.
