I have factory UCAs and they gave me about 1.5 on caster (first perch) - my sheet is posted above. Drives pretty well but I can see that new UCAs have a big advantage on adjustment; especially for higher lifts. I am hearing that max caster is what you want.

Stupid question time - how does one go about moving the clips from first perch to second? I assume it requires removing the top nut and decompressing the spring, then putting in the new clip, recompressing the spring and reinstalling.

Guess Im just asking if theres any way to go about it without essentially uninstalling and reinstalling the coilovers?

I do not think it’s possible to accomplish while installed on the vehicle. You would first need to pull the strut off. Then the coil is compressed with a compression tool. Auto Shops have giant presses that compress the coils. Or You can get a loaner hand tool at a auto supply place and do it yourself but be ultra careful and take your time. Wear goggles. Once the coil is compressed, loosen the top bolt and pull off the top hat, washers etc. then slip the shock out of the coil. Now you have the shock free and clear to move the clips to the new position. Once they are to your liking, repeat the above in reverse order. If the Eibach clips are like Bilsteins which I believe they are, the clip is basically a circle “C” shape metal ring that fits into a groove on the shock body tube. You can use a small screwdriver to spread the clip and slide into position. There’s also a YouTube video on pulling the struts off the fast way below- dropping the bottom sway bar and shock from the bottom. Hope that helps!

    Dave13,

Tanner at Eibach was person who told me to put it on 2nd setting with the 1”spacer block from Eibach, and it should have a 1/4” rake. Doesn't seem right according to all the comments on here. Sometimes too much information is no bueno..

    @Dave13
Brake line bracket- I used the original brake line bracket and just drilled out the hole to accept the Icon bracket bolt. I beat it a bit W a hammer to push it down and closer.

Eibach probably does know better (I’m not being sarcastic) and maybe the notch spacing is closer than I could determine from research (looking at their instructions for using stock coils, about 1” per notch).

I ordered my coils assembled so I have no measurements on it. If you do go second notch with a 1” block I would be very interested in the results and ride. Like I posted above, I only netted about 1-5/8” to 1-3/4”. I have 3/4” rake with an empty tank.

I was going to look at doing that too but I don’t want to strain the brake cable to much. Yours looks tight but do have enough play/flex in it?

I also thought about making a small extension bracket out of aluminum to mount to that same bolt but position the cable bracket a couple inches lower.

And how are you liking the AAL with the overload in?

Truth is that the bracket is maybe an inch higher than before so it’s not a major alteration in position. I’m going to see if they have something similar at the auto part store and upgrade as well.

I haven’t had a chance to drive it much yesterday but I did notice it seems more springy cushy than 2” metal blocks.

do you have any pics of your truck? I’m 2wd also and have my eibach kit ready to install but mine are set on the 2nd notch. Currently waiting for my Jba’s to show up. I have a 1.5 rear block to install for the rear but trying to decide if it will be level with this setup or if I should lower it to the first notch before I install everything. How much lift would you say you got on the front end at the lowest setting?

My truck came from the dealer with a 3”/2” ready lift kit on it so I can’t tell you measurements from stock. My fronts are now the Eibach Pro struts on the Lower setting- center hub to fender measures 23”. Rear is now Eibach pro shocks, plus a 1.5” Icon AAL leaf lift kit- center hub to fender is 24”. So at the moment my rear is 1” higher. Ground to fender is one inch higher in the rear, give or take an 1/8”. You can use tiresize.com and compare my tire size to yours and see what the height difference might be- 275/70/17. I think if I raised my fronts a notch I’d be closer to level but I tow a small boat around on the weekends so I’m still thinking... I guess you’ll have to figure in or out your own leafs and variables etc.

Awesome, thanks for the info. I’m hoping to get my uca delivered on Tuesday and then get my lift installed some time next week. I’m running 265/70/17 so only .6 of an inch off from your tire sizes.

Thank you. Installed it yesterday and it went smoothly. Everything leveled out and is looking good.

The Icon AAL was trickier than I thought it would be because I couldn't get the top nut off so I cut it off and we are good now.

Did your alignment change / is it way off or your steering wheel turned after? Mine is....

Sometimes that happens with any suspension.

Always get a fresh alignment after changing out suspension components for best results.

Find a shop that has some experience with lifted Tacomas if you can. I think my alignment results are okay (still may want UCAs for good measure...$$$) and my steering wheel is centered.

I did a lot of reading about stability control issues after a lift. They seem to be caused mostly by not aligning the steering straight due to a sensor in the steering rack/column that is used to sense steering input vs truck yaw. Basically, the right combination of misalignment in the steering wheel while taking a sweeping curve can cause the VSC to trigger as if you were fishtailing. This will activate the ABS controller to brake some of your wheels - very bad if for control. Thankfully, I have not experienced this and not seen any posts in this thread about it.

My steering wheel is perfectly straight and I don't notice any issues with alignment. However, I haven't gotten an alignment done yet. I am putting new wheels and tires on next weekend so I will wait until then to do an alignment.
