Yeah that’s about what I’ve found it for - bring a battery powered grinder if you need the 20’ lengths cut in half - I’ve waited hours for one stupid cut at some places. Where you’re building a cage I’d see if you can get it home without cutting if possible. The mixup at the small time shop may have been a blessing now that you get to do the whole thing with more experience and can design it together.

It wasn't that long ago that tons of prerunner were built from HREW, with 1.5" main tube cages.
Now everything has to be 2" cromoly, tig welded, and heat treated...

If you hit something with a bumper, DOM or mild , it will prob bend, but if built well will serve it's purpose way better than a stock bumper.

That being said, I use DOM for everything now, usually 1.75" .120 wall for all main structure and I.5" .095 for triangulation to save weight.
If I ever build a full size gnar truck I might get a 2" die for the main structure

You are going to learn so much doing things yourself, will prob make some mistakes here and there that might seem like it cost you a little but it's nothing compared to what it costs paying a "shop" to do a full build.
You will always learn from mistakes too which is just as valuable.

Score tubing sizes are completely based on weight regardless of the vehicle. Sub 4k and you are good with 1.75, over and you need 2".... For your truck unless you are really looking to race 1.75" will be plenty

Not to derail ur thread, but are u comfortable with welding rear diffs? Gonna be changing my rear dif fluid anyways in a couple weeks and want to do it then, no clue how much you'd want for the work.

Gonna be going 6 lug in a year or two for the rear, but want some more traction for now.
