Ya, I haven't looked in to it far enough to even know what I'm going to do... or if I'm going to do anything with the Master. Once I get everything in, and see how the pedal feels, I'll start looking in to MC/booster options.

With adding the volume of rear disc, I'm thinking I'll need to... but then again, a larger bore produces less pressure. So until I get that far, I'm just looking at what options are out there.

So your end result was an early 1st gen MC and booster? That's early 1st gen Tacoma not 1st gen truck correct? How early is early? what years am I looking at? Do they bolt right up to a later 1st gen Tacoma or is the any sort of adapter needed?

I've done a mod or two
The motion ratio of the early 1st gen pedal is different from that of the later 1st gen pedal too, something worth keeping in mind.

@Pella took the axle down and dropped it off at the shop.

Sounds like I'll have it back by Wed or Thur.

I’ll have to look at that - I actually have a SOS Sequoia 2 bolt single diaphragm booster adapter for the 1G Tundras that fits a 01-04 w/ABS in my possession. Like @Speedytech7 mentioned the 01-04 ABS trucks have a different brake pedal setup. I bought a pedal and single booster diaphragm to upgrade my 98 which had a 1” MC dual diaphragm like all 95.5-00 trucks and the 01-04 non-ABS trucks but it was binding in some places in the pedal throw. I need to do some more testing but I think it’s possibly due to the firewall - pedal bracket placement differences between the 4 bolt and 2 bolt boosters. It’s strange because going the opposite direction from a 2 bolt to a 4 bolt doesn’t even require a new pedal, just cutting the pushrod shorter.

@El Taco Diablo interesting you must have the 4 bolt booster.

I'd be interested on what you find, if they make a combo for a 01+ booster plus adapter to Sequioa MC that would then be a nice setup for tundra plus 4runner rear disc setup. Post up when you get more info and a working design!

@ToyRyd04 you said you're running the Drotor backers and 4 Runner brakes, right?

I'll throw some reference in here since I'm messing with brakes setup currently. I'm running 13WL tundra calipers up front and sequoia calipers in the rear. I'm running a dual diaphragm booster out of T100 and I started with the 1 1/16" T100 non-ABS master cylinder as a base line when I did the rear axle swap last year. I've never liked the feel of the pedal since all the brake force felt like it was only at the end the pedal stroke.

I recently swapped to a 15/16" Supra MK3 non-ABS master cylinder and the brakes are substantial better. I couldn't lock up my brakes before and now I can lock the rear up with a little effort. Pedal is still a little softer then I would really like, but I think there is still some air in the lines and I might have to refit the gap distance on the booster into the master, so I might try either a 13/16" or 7/8" master next if nothing changes after I play with it a little more.

Right on. Thank you for the info. I'm sure I'll be doing the trial and error thing as well. It's good to have this to go back and reference the different options.

For the ebrakes... Trying to gather everthing up to plumb the brake lines and do the ebrake cable brackets (everything that needs to be welded) before I paint the housing.

I'm thinking these are the cables I need... and then I need to run the brackets like what is on a 4runner axle.

I think you’re referring to Sky Manufacturing - SOS doesn’t support 1G Tacoma setups at all. They made this for a 1G Tundra which uses a 2 bolt booster with the same stud spacing as a 01-04 ABS Tacoma. Sky on the other hand makes a bunch of adapters for 4 stud boosters which go back to mini truck gens which use the same spacing as all non ABS 1G Tacos and 95.5-00 ABS Tacos. This is where I ended up at the end of this rabbit hole - I currently have all of the following to experiment with

For the single diaphragm 2 bolt booster (01-04 ABS), corresponding brake pedal, 13/16 ABS spec Taco MC and the 1G Tundra SOS Sequoia MC adapter. The only thing standing in the way of me using this is brake pedal binding up about 2/3 of the way down the stroke of the push rod. Again I think it’s from firewall location for the pedal compared to the booster but I’m not sure. Will have time to test it out at some point this fall probably.

For the 4 bolt dual diaphragm booster (ala mini truck, 1-3G 4Runners, T100, etc.) I have the original 1” Taco MC, a T100 1 ton MC, a Sky manufacturing 1 5/16 GM MC adapter and remanned GM MC, and a Sky Wilwood MC adapter. I guess that’s a grand total of 6 potential systems I could run.

Hard lines (doing stainless from front to back) and hoses are next and then I can fool around with the weird binding issue I had (which I did not have when I took the whole pedal / booster / MC assembly out of a donor truck and pressed the pedal before taking all the parts off to put on my truck).

@SanClementeTaco had that Sequoia MC adapter and said it worked great for 37’s / Tundra BBK / 4runner rear calipers and I’d like to make that work if possible on my older truck (his was an 01-04 w/ ABS). If I run out of time, I will pick the top of the pile from the 4 bolt options because I know I won’t have any pedal issues.

Yep, factory '04 13/16 MC with 231 front brakes. Right now I'm running a full wilwood proportion valve system with ABS deleted. Overall about 80ish % happy with it. A sequoia MC + the wilwood would make it a lot better. It has enough braking power to stop the crawlbox in low low with auto so they are not bad by any means, but would like just a bit more braking power.

I have managed to get my stock brake cables to work with my fj80 rear, but full disclosure it only goes on for 3miles a year to get it inspected, then comes right off. But If I had to make a permanent one I would get all the tools to make your own. So many variables to get these to work. I would just spend the money on rolling to do that IMO.

As for brakes, bolt it up and see how it works. When I did my fj80 swap I was going down the new MC rabbit hole, t100 this, 1ton that and said screw it Ill hook it up and see how it works. Works fine and I can lock up 37s loaded, with tundra front brakes and stock fj80 rear discs. Saying that your truck probably weighs about 3klbs more than mine does so your milage may vary.

Ok... So, I got the 63s disassembled and ordered the poly bushings.

I think this is how I'm going to set them up for my first guess for which leafs to use (spring rate).

What is the consensus on which paint to use? I'm thinking POR 15.

Looks like a reasonable stack, 4 might be a tad light for you but it's a good starting point I think. Be interesting to see how much it changes up your shock valving needs though.
