    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

Ya, I can reach the lever from the bumper. I don't have to get all the way under there or anything.

It had to be that far back for protection, but more importantly to make the line angle better coming off the winch and through the bumper.

Changed plans for the day. Got a bit busy with other things, and also the elbows to re-route the resi hoses got here.

I was able to do the resi mounts.

No way it'll be running by then. RCV axle shafts will take longer than that to get and I'm just now trying to order those today.

How did you go about finding out where the hoops were going to poke through on the bed, before you made the cutouts?

Front to back I measured off the cab to the hoops. When measuring in the bed, I burned an inch to account for the gap between the bed and the cab.

Side to side I found center of the frame measure, and center of between the bed measure. I used a framing square to get the distance from the heal of the wheel well to the spot on top of the wheel well.

And I figured about 3/4 over on all of my measurements to allow room for fuck ups.

    @nDub @02hilux @ToyRyd04 and maybe @theesotericone @foxrcing07

Question about full float axle shafts:

These are the drive flanges I'm using https://frontrangeoffroadfab.com/diamond-axle-drive-flanges/
I'm trying to order the axle shafts. I started by reaching out to RCV but they need to know if there is a C clip that should be on the shaft. They said since I'm using Diamond (Front Range) flanges, I should order from them because they are an RCV vendor anyway, and they would have the specifics.

So... I emailed Front Range, because they literally will not answer the phone anymore (their site even says they don't answer the phone, to just email). Well... anyone who has dealt with Front Range will also know, they are not always very quick to respond, and they are not always all that helpful when they do respond. (Had I known this before, I probably would have ordered the drive flanges from RCV instead, lesson learned). They have not responded to my emails.

Anyway, I am assuming (but I want to make sure) the clip on a double splined Full Float axle would only have a clip just on the inside of the flange. Which would serve the purpose of keeping the axle shaft in. I believe there is no clip on the outside of the flange, because it wouldn't be necessary and there is not enough room under the cap to allow the axle shaft to protrude out of the flange splines that far.

Would I be correct in those assumptions? I'm trying to get the info so I can call RCV back again and get these F'n things on order.

Other question is does anyone have any good experience with any other custom axle shaft makers? I'm seeing Dutchman Axles. Anyone know anything about them? I just need to get these things on order, because I'm thinking my luck, they will have a long lead time. And we are under 60 days to King of Hammers.

One C-clip same position, same measurements on a RCV toy pickup birfield. At the extreme outer end of the shaft. Which makes sense since toy 30 spline aisin hubs fit that shafts which is what the drive flanges mimic just in a stronger single piece design.

Couldn't find a picture I took, but found another's. it goes IFS Hub -> Drive Flange body -> C clip -> Dive Flange cover.
Usually the drilled center hole is threaded for a bolt to pull the shaft close enough to get the clip on. Its a tight spec, but helps with shaft walk. Back in the day guys would do the "MARTACK" mod doing the same thing when shafts didnt have a clip.

    Like what @ToyRyd04 mentioned

C-clip between the flange and cover.

Ok... let me wrap my head around this.

The C clip goes on the outside of the drive flanges? So it's to keep the shaft from moving, farther, in to the axle housing, not keeping it from coming out? (Either way, I'm assuming the splines keep it in place to a degree as well).

Correct. Outside of the flange but covered/inside by the flange cover. The clip prevent the shaft from going in any further.

Correct, and then to keep it from coming out further the splines taper off about 1/8" or so behind the flanges full seated. That's what keeps your inner and outer shaft play. With the tight cut of the splines and resistance from 3rd member splines and drive flange splines it takes quite an amount of effort to pull them out when servicing to get to the 3rd member out of the housing. If they slide in and out easy, splines are already wearing.

Its nice to keep the flanges with the c-clip on for leverage when pulling the shafts.

Correct. I recalled rubber tapping the flange into the spine.
