Finally got my aluminum bar stock. I ordered it quite a while ago and it got lost in the mail. The seller had to turn it in to isurance for reimbursement, but graciously sent another.

Was able to use @Pella band saw to get nice clean/square cuts.

These are cut to be used as spacers to set my bump stops where they need to be, without the temporary scraps of square tube I have welded to the bump pads on the frame.



Now I just need to send a drill bit through the center, so they can be bolted between the bumpstop and the bump riser.

 

Didn't end up doing the CV boots today... because FUCK having to remove the skid plates lol

 

lol this is exactly why I’m over due for gear oil changes. I should do that soon and stop being lazy.

 

They are such a fucking pain in the dick!

 

So... I realized I was going to need a vetter way to bore holes in the aluminum spacers.

 

Nice, I need something like that for my drill press.

 

Bumpstops are set.

 

Just FYI - I did that same job on my Tacoma a few months ago, and you can rent that OTC slide puller from Autozone. Worked like a dream.

 

I'll be buying one of those soon. My son's 3rd Gen 4runner is lookin like it going to need seals soon. And since I have the press, I'm sure others will need to use it.

 

The job wasn't really all that bad. Thanks to the videos Timmy posted I had the entire thing torn down and buttoned back up in about 4 hours (that was with full bearing replacement and the tone ring flip... if you're just doing seals it shouldn't take you long at all)

 

Man... It's been a minute since I updated this thread!

Let me see if I can catch this up a bit.

We loaded the truck up, and headed out on a road trip adventure. We really needed it. Haven't been able to go much this year with the whole Covid thing, and a few bouts of bad luck with parts not coming in, or breaking at inopportune times.

Was definately good to get out on the road. Jen had never gone on a multi State road trip.

 

Good times were had, good pictures were taken.

 

Our destination was Colorado Springs. Our youngest son is Stationed there. This year has been kind of rough for him, so we wanted to go back, hang out for a coupke days, and remind him he's got peiple in his corner.



We hooked up with him and camped the first night in Colo Springs. Ormes peak. At 9060 feet, it was the highest Jen and I have ever camped.

 

Had some good chinese food the next day.


Hung out in Old Colorado Springs for a bit. Jen found a shop she liked.

 

One the way back, we stopped for a cheesy pic in NM.

 

Jen really took an interest in delving in to some of the history of Route 66, as we criss crossed it.

She has a really good idea about following it from the CA coast out through AZ, maybe NM on a future trip. That would be different... but I think it would be a blast.

 

Since we've been back... I've been addressing a few things we learned on the trip.

My twin 4wd shifters having no boot was causing hot air to come up through the floor board. I ordered some heat shield/sound dampen and installed... fixed the issue.

 

Finally got a washer fluid reservoir from Scarab Offroad. They had a supply issue. I had hoped we would recieve it before the trip. Fortunately we didn't need it on the trip.

 

Added some patches to the headliner.

Set up some of the chachkies we picked up along the way as well.
