i doubt your butt can feel a 5hp difference. in reality, your butt is only trying to justify the time/money spent doing the mod.

More than likely what you're feeling is the increase in throttle response. Also, I could tell that mine bogged down less (held speed & RPM) when going up hills after doing the deckplate mod because of better airflow.

It doesn't seem to make much sense, but I've heard of others saying their fuel economy suffered after this mod. I think more than likely it's because of a change in driving style (more aggressive) since there is better throttle response and better sound at higher RPM. After any modification that makes a vehicle sound or drive better people tend to get a bit of 'skinny pedal syndrome'. Driving style affects your MPG more than virtually any other outside influence.

Try another tank and make sure you drive like you always have before...

When I said horsepower I ment how I can feel the truck better when I hit the gas. As for gas mileage I will try another tank.

Sounds good. Just to make sure, did you do any other work or make any other mods around the same time? Fuel economy can be very finicky. Before I learned about this forum I changed my spark plugs with what I thought were really good plugs and my gas mileage tanked (no pun intended!).

Anyway, if the only thing you changed was installing the deck plate you'll probably find that your mileage is still okay. The change you see after the deck plate is a little surprising and it's very easy to get throttle-happy!

I had an airaid intake...took it off due to it letting too much dirt in. I then did the deckplate mod about 2 years ago. I couldnt tell a bit of difference other than sound. I did notice I had to change the OEM air filters more often it seemed like. I screwed the deckplate back in quite a while ago and actually think I gained a mile or two per gallon. I have a scangauge...however accurate they may be I dunno.

Get yourself a K&N High Flow air filter and screw the deck plate back out. I promise you'll notice a difference...

Just wanted to mention that the 5-6 hp chris4x4 saw was at the rear wheels. The increase at the flywheel was probably more like 6-8 hp.You lose 15-20% in the transmission and diff. The 190 HP quoted in the vehicle specs is measured at the flywheel.

where can one view those results?

to be accurate you'd need to dyno the same truck multiple times with and without the deck plate to get an average.

cooler more dense air creates horsepower...the stock air box is eccentially a CAI...why not try and feed more cold air from the fender wall or up by the windsheild instead of letting "hot" engine bay air into the air box...

Was checking out my box yesterday. Noticed that the owner before me has done the Elbow Mod. Therefore, I can not base with or without and results. However, Im looking for a increase in sound around 3000 (as people have noted). I plan to do the deckplate mod with also getting a new K@N filter for the box. I asked this in another thread. But The deck plate size needed for a 2.7L should be 3" or 4"??
    Great thread.
Edit.. I took out the elbow this afternoon. However the hole is maybe 2" ( I did not measure it is just a guess. I plan to complete the deck plate and cover the opening for the elbow after I get a K@N ready to go..

As long as the hole is as large as the most narrow place in the intake hose/throttle body, you're fine. I'm not sure about your engine, but I believe with a 3.4, its about 3".

i did the deck plate mod a long time ago and got more power and better mpg but recently my engine has lost a ton of low end power, adding a dynomax muffler didnt help that either

i put in the deck plate today just to see how it would run and it ran wayyyy better, a friend of mine said that this is probably due to a dirty MAFS or bad o2 sensor

no check engine light ever came on through all of this
