You have nothing to worry about as far are your engine temp. That beach run we did was short and had mild conditions. Last year when Nathan, Colin and myself ran PINS beach the conditions where ten times worse. If I remember correctly it took us about 3 hours just to go less then 20 miles. I know Colin's truck was running pretty hot for a while but it was nothing to be really concerned about. When that happened we all just let off the throttle a bit and took it easy trying to push through the soft sand.

It was short but I still went 20 degrees (11%) over normal temps. And what if I do some more offroading that raises it even higher, or for longer?
Why is it nothing to worry about? And I did the same. I coasted where I could and let off of the fishtailing and pedal mashing until it went back down to around 190.

Our engines our like little workhorses. They can easily handle the weekend warrior stuff you and I due. Plus, one of the fun parts of off-roading is pushing your vehicle beyond its normal limits and getting a better feel for how they operate. Im not saying push it to the max. I enjoy flipping through my scan gauge during off-roading trips and finding out how well my truck can handle different situations.

Now if I'm going to turn my truck into a desert racer and chase down shitty raptors then I might consider some better cooling system. Lol

I'm in the 150k range right now on my 05. New frame in a couple months though. So if I kill this engine, I already found a totaled taco with less than 20k on the tranny and engine. Still starts and all. Airbags and rear end frame damage.

Back to tranny coolers. I would say start a thread and get people to chime in.

Looks like there are plenty of off the shelf kits out there and fairly easily installed.

There are many threads in a quick search on the net.

I like to invest in the longevity of my truck ;) Yes, our vehicles are a solid engine platform that hasn't changed in any years.

LOTS of wiring, dual battery setup, Solar charging system, with some random lights spread around here and there.
Don't have any installed pics yet. Hoping to get the rear end put back together in the next couple days and then tear apart the front. However this is a 2 fan kit. I thought it was only a single fan when I ordered it, so naturally I hit "2" for quantity and ended up with 4 fans and 2 thermostats. So a set is going to go on the ZJ and a set on the truck. Simple appearing wiring and mounting. But we will see.

I'd like to see this too. Had some house stuff going on recently. Building some raised planter boxes for the wife and just switched shifts at work with some new training. I think if I pulled the truck in the garage right now she might shoot me. But I'm going to go down and pick up an OEM radiator to mock up the fans and start measuring out the shrouds. As soon on as they are done then it will be time to pull everything apart.
I'm hoping to start pulling stuff in 2 weeks and start the shroud later this week.

Yeah I will. Wish I could have been out there sooner or even got it done prior to Moab.

I would think that the best of both worlds would be replacing the viscoupling fan clutch with a electromagnetic fan clutch.

I want to do this but can't find a replacement clutch that would fit.

It would work well too. AC clutch power to the 86 pin and ground 85 and 30. Then put the clutch on 87 and 87a. 30 would run through the thermal switch to ground. Now you'll have cold AC in traffic too.
