Just got a 2002 3.4L 4x4 Taco with 148,000 miles and I'm looking to improve gas mileage/performance. Has anyone swapped out their stock radiator fan for a Flex-a-lite or similar electric fan? Thinking about doing it and I see a member on here has one for sale for $200. What kind of mpg gains can I expect?

    Thanks,
    Brian

I had one for 6 months or so and hated it!!! it was plagued with issues and I didnt see one benefit.

In those 6 months I had the temp sensor not respond 4 times, a fan blade break off all of these issues left me overheating.. and somewhat stranded till I fixed them.

    AVOID!!!!!!!!!

Probably none. You're stock clutch fan is the most efficient. Keep it tuned up, plugs and wires, keep a nice clean air cleaner in it.

Most times I go the other way remove the electric fan or fans for any number of reasons.

Just more parts to fail at the worse possible time and place.

About the only place for a electric fan is a engine swap that has no physical room for the fan clutch and fan.

    money better spent else where.

All good info and I'm going to stay with the stock radiator fan. Any reviews on CAIs and cat-back exhausts would be appreciated. Glad to finally be a part of this community!

They make the truck louder.. end of story.

Unless you have a supercharger.. you wont see any actual power or mpg gain.

The best CAI is the stock intake.

They are for the most like anything else a marketing idea to sell things that give one things to brag about at the mall

As for exhaust if your spending money do the whole system unless yours is rusted out

    Then go Stainless!!.

In my experience, electric fans are also annoyingly loud and sound like there is a hair dryer running under your hood.

Stainless steel exhaust is such a waste of money. It eventually rusts out anyways. If you really want to get some kind of fancy with the exhaust system, you might as well go Titanium. Lightweight, does not rust, and it gives you bling factor.

Don`t know but steel exhaust lasts two winters and needs to be replaced .

Going on 4 years so to me the stainless paid for itself
