It already does. Just at 100W instead of 400W

Once I put the truck in drive the plug quits working. The dealership told me it’s a safety issue and is operating the way it’s designed to. Also said it can be overrode. It’s in a switch in the transmission

It depends what you have plugged in. If it draws more than .8 amps the outlet will shut off while driving.

Yes it can be modified, I'm surprised a dealer told you that as an option. There's a wiring harness near the shifter that needs to be modified. I think @CaliRaisedLed makes an actual harness that is plug and play that will also let you put an outlet in the cab

I make that harness not @CaliRaisedLed unless they’ve decided to knock that one off as well (wouldn’t surprise me). You can purchase one from a more reputable retailer like Shaun:

    Oh look, another mod....
Something must be wrong with your truck! I am able to plug in all 27 sex toys that I own into the bed of my truck (with the help of a surge protector, of course) and run them at full speed while I drive down the road.

FYI: Those aren't "bed lights" in my truck, it's a glowing "Real Doll"!

I can't say I've had any bad experiences with them and their harness is listed as a "partner product" meaning they partner with another company to help produce and sell them similar to how other companies like Meso Customs is partnered with online retailers to help sell products

That “partner” is me. I am/was their supplier. I supplied the switch illumination harnesses on their website as well. I asked to have my brand on the listings to avoid product confusion (because that can be the point of a lawsuit) and they declined. Lo and behold a few months later I found them producing the harnesses on their own with my product still as their listing photo. Perhaps one of the worst companies you could ever work with @CaliRaisedLed

My wife's has a converted 2 cycle weed trimmer engine. She really doesn't like it because of the noise attracting attention and the fumes in the cab are obnoxious.

I'm curious as to what Toyota's rationale is for knocking it down to 100W when the truck is in motion. As long as the engine is on, whether the truck is parked or in motion, the battery is being charged. In fact the battery is being charged at a higher RPM when the truck is being driven.

Also, whether the AC output is 100W or 400W, the actual usefulness is minimal regarding the appliances that can run off that. Certainly nothing with resistance heat, like a coffeemaker. So we're left with charging things like laptops and cell phones. But for those things, why not just use the USB charging port inside the console?

I would be open to paying $85 for a bypass harness to get 400W at all times (when the engine is on), if I could think of a practical use for it. Fridge? Maybe. But I'm the kind of guy who uses an old-fashioned ice chest on my camping trips. Besides, for most of the time a fridge would be needed, the truck's engine would be off. So the inverter wouldn't be relevant anyway.

I consider CaliRaised the Harbor Freight of the off-road world. I’ve actually only ordered from them once. Ended up returning the item for a refund. It was delivered to them but they denied ever receiving it and never issued the refund. I’ll never order from them again.
