I got bored this weekend and made this up after doing some painting. I have a SnugTop Canopy and made some small changes to suit my gadget needs. First the dome light was battery powered and weak. I swapped that over to a 12v LED using the same switch and housing. I am replacing the third brake light with a new one because the old one took on water and was all messed up. If you are wondering those are the loose wires. I hate pulling a key out for the rear hatch so I installed a cheap $18 Ebay hatch release and rigged it up with some heim joints from Jegs. The box is from Ace and houses my 12v power distribution block, a common ground, and controls for the hatch release remote. On the side I placed a 200w converter. That is still waiting for some double sided tape.

Next week’s project should the family allow is to take my secondary remote for the hatch release which I soldered wires to both poles of the clicker switch and wire it to the car alarm so the AUX button activates the remote and allows me to use my normal alarm fob.

    Just thought I would share.

…. And yes, I did bed line the inside of the canopy.

Update: Having a hell of a time trying to get my accessory button on my Prestige APS25N alarm to trigger the spare remote for the canopy lid. Can't find the wiring diagram, don't know if it is activated by a click, double - click, or a long press. Heck, I don't even know if the accessory wire on the alarm is a ground or a positive. NEVER BUY AN AUDIOVOX ANYTHING!!! This thing is so cheap they don't even put a label on the alarm itself.

The dome light in my topper is shot, has been for years. Forgive my stupidity, but when you said you switched to a 12v LED light, that runs fine off the battery, correct?

(I understand the battery is 12v, just don't know enough about LED electronics)

And where can I find a 12v LED dome light like that?

    Thanks in advance

I actually removed the bulb and battery tray from the dome light. The dome light I bought comes with universal bulb adapters that plug into the old bulb housing. I then just ran a 12v battery source and a ground from the truck to the positive and ground that used to go to the battery tray. That way I could still use the switch on the side of the dome light box. For running the wires to the box I just drilled a hole in the side and pushed the wire loom plastic in for a better look.

THIS is the style LED I used.

Was trying to figure out where you mounted that box, ,til I saw you've got an '01.
That would be the sidewall of the bed, Right?

    Nice Job
