I like the concept of stainless (though would be scared shitless to touch that thing after sitting in the hot sun). And I like the on-board air & power. But otherwise totally agree.

Ford is supposed to be announcing more information about their all electric F150 this month, it looks like it will be more work/towing/hauling focused, if Toyota goes down the all electric truck road, I hope that is the direction they go down. Toyota can build a solid electric vehicle, and it won't be slow. The electric Rav 4 is their second fastest vehicle, right behind the supra.

Some info/pics came out today. Sleepy Joe said 4.4sec 0-60… not bad.

Agreed to an extent - 0-60 is useful for a generic wag on power & grip which leads to the other answers.

The way I gauge this info - googling the ‘20 Hennessey velociraptor f150 (likely ballpark weight - not sure if batteries offset engine/trans/fluids) has 600hp/622tq and runs a 4.2 0-60.

Or… my taco runs a 7-8 sec 0-60. So it’s wayyyy more powerful. Hopefully the payload/towing info is proportionate to the increase in power as well. It’s promising so far.

Don’t forget intake/exhaust system, won’t ever need a snorkel. There’s a fair amount of steel pipe there along with the cat and muffler. Twin motors don’t have drive shaft or carrier bearing/support either.

I don;t think if it's known if the motors will be at the wheels or in the center which will require CV shafts like a Tesla. We will find out tomorrow. THe Toyota test mule uses solid axles front and rear with driveshafts,

Agreed but torque is what gets those obscene 0-60 numbers.

Test bed and transition yes but long term it doesn’t make sense to keep the drive shaft since it’s just dead weight and rotating dead weight at that. The ideal would be hub motors on each drive wheel to eliminate as much axle/diff/cv weight as possible. At that point the bearings can shift out to the rim of the wheel instead of the hub.

CV's work on a car but a truck would be a bad idea I agree. Never know, cars could switch to wheel motors.

Highly unlikely motors will be wheel mounted. Unsprung weight, Road vibration, that sort of thing.

Remember reading about the electric Ford pickup a couple of years ago. It featured an optional removeable box mounted generator for extended range in the boonies. Nice Idea!

RIVIAN has them mounted at each wheel. Cybertruck will have wheel mounted motors at the rear wheels on all motor versions I believe. They aren't as big and heavy as you may think.

I'm aware of how big they are. They would be fine for a smooth road but what about driving over washboard roads at high speeds. Motors would be subjected to very high G forces and shock loads, connecting cables more subject to mechanical damage, much higher load on suspension components, higher probability of water ingress, etc.
