Could use some help troubleshooting an electrical gremlin. Last winter my drivers side window started to only work sporadically then stopped all together. I removed the entire switch and took it apart trying to find the problem and found what looked like a blown circuit with black soot around it. I cleaned it up but did not put it back together properly and when I put it back in my passenger side switch stopped. I removed both switches and had no problems with the truck all summer. I have also been driving with out the doors this summer for better visibility when off-roading and because its a lot of fun. A few days ago I replaced the switches and put the doors back on. I should mention that the connectors were pretty muddy in the door but I cleaned them as best I could. Once I put the switches back in my battery light came on. Next thing I know my truck has died in the middle of an intersection and wont start. It started with the radio cutting in and out, then the gages stopped working. I pushed it out and down the street to a friends house (luckily I was only a block away). Now the Truck can be jumped and will idle but dies if I put it into gear. My gear level also seems to be broken after I used the button to override the shift lock. Not I have to use the shift lock override every time.

Basically I'm at a loss. I don't want to pay someone at Toyota the hours to trouble shoot but I'm not sure where to start the process. I have a feeling its my window switch relay that is faulty but don't know how to test it.

I would appreciate any advise anyone has I have to leave to move to Boise, ID in a week! Thanks Guys!

Have you checked all your fuses?

I had checked the fuses when it first started in the winter but have not looked since. Does the drivers side window have its own fuse? All the other functions work.

I have a intermittent passenger window that will stop working. One time last year for a few months and then again just last week.

It seems like a faulty wire, as both switches (driver side and pass side) dont operate the window. I cant hear any noises when trying
the window, no grinding, no falling, etc...

Has anybody hunted down if the passenger side has a unique fuse? Wouldnt make sense since it did work again?

I tried search and only fount this link?

everything works off the drivers side switch and it gets its power from a power window relay under the drivers kick panel. the relay may not be sending the right voltage if it was fried when your switch went bad.

are you 1000% sure you have the correct switch and not one from a 4runner or a used switch that may have its own issues?

step one is to pull the door switch off and see if the truck works normally again to see if the replacement switch is your problem.

+12v power to the door switch is the big blue wire with the red stripe on it and that powers everything in both doors except the mirrors. the big white wire with the black stripe on it is the main ground wire for everything in both doors.
