Bays in service are there to make the service department money, and that’s done solely via labor hours. Service makes no money on parts. Parts makes no money on service, but they each require the other to be successful. Service wants to sell hours. Parts wants to sell parts.
A tech wants the hours, he or she doesn’t make money on parts.
Ask any service manager, myself included, if they would rather have a job that had more money in parts or labor and I bet you can guess their response.
The thought of future leaks or issues isn’t a concern for any competent team and isn’t factored into selling or deciding on a route to take for a job. It’s all about labor for service. Its not a concern if a car is in a bay if its making labor hours.
3rd party warranties have gotten into the habit of sending their own parts now. So you call a claim in and say hey this thing needs an actuator and it’s 7hrs labor to replace, they’ll say we’ll send you a whole transfer case and pay you 2.4 instead because it’s more cost effective for them.

Would your shop rebuild an engine?
    The whole engine?

No it would do what any other Toyota shop would do. Short block, heads/valves, etc if necessary.

And I should also say that if it was a 3rd party warranty, it would probably just get a complete used engine.

What the hell happened to my thread lol

Just an update on the ORIGINAL thread. I’ve had the weird electrical gremlin visit one or two other random times since that first time. Still no idea what’s causing it. But I’m at 117k miles now and it’s not causing any real issues so I guess whatever :notsure:

A friend suggested maybe my battery life is nearing its end. Is that a thing?

A guy named Bob stole it.
I can probably get it back for you.
But it’s gonna cost you a case beer.
    And a bag of Funyuns.

Replaced in Nov of 21. I replaced the battery the month after it happened. It did it again a couple of months ago. So maybe!

Right at 3 years, that’s a short battery life but they can definitely fail early, I think it’s worth a try replacing it and see what happens

If it starts happening more often I will. But so far just once on this battery
