My hybrid has a ton of electrical tape in the engine bay and under the body for wiring — much of it is coming undone .. very disconcerting … I cannot see how this is normal. Anyone else experiencing this?

Pretty normal now, the 24 tacoma engine bay looks awful becuase of all the loom and tape.

The orange cables are sealed and are what truly matters.

It's not critical, just cosmetic or things like the MAF wires would be sealed and not visible.

I’ll send a picture later. I looked again this evening and it isn’t that bad but cosmetically annoying and messy. But when I saw the third gen without the cover it looked really similar

Put a zip tie at the ends to keep the tape from unraveling

Put an engine cover on it. That is their only purpose. So you don't see anything when you lift the hood.

Thanks for the P/N, but I recommend not buying this from Amz due to counterfeiting. I ended up buying a roll from a local stereo / car alarm shop.

I am seeing a lot of cut corners and cheapening. Ample use of felt, anywhere from storage bin liners to skidplate on certain trims, strap and button to hold up the rear seat bottoms, temporary spare, and few other things.

Makes you wonder what else they cheaped out on, yet charge a premium price.

Every automaker has entire departments of engineers working full-time on cost cutting. (All part of "kaizen".) In short, if they didn't do this, the truck would be even more expensive than it is today.

There's that toyota build quality. I agree OP, $60k on a truck you should expect tape not to be unraveling a few weeks in.
