Anyone know if the aluminum can be LineX'd? I asked earlier, but that seems to have been missed...or no one knows...

    Update:
    OK, just talked to LineX...

If they can "fully encase" it, it'll work, otherwise, the stuff tends to stick less to aluminum, so there's a greater chance of it peeling off...

    Which now makes me ask...

Can the aluminum be crinkle-finish powder coated?

idk why you'd want crinkle finish powder coat..i have seen a couple just powdercoated that are smooth and it is bad..ass.

Crinkle/ textured powder coats are actually a lot more durable than smooth finishes. And smooth finishes tend to show light scratches pretty easily

And powder costing aluminum is fine. Should be just as strong as mild steel powdercoat

Not a bad choice at all, but..., well, one of the original posts for this offer mentioned that crinkle finish.

Frankly, I'm intrigued/confused as to why people are questioning my choices...LOL

Let's see... I already have a custom rear bumper that's LineX'd, so in my personal interest of having a new truck that still has what I consider to be an appealing look, I'd like the bumpers to match - hence the LineX questions.

Next up, since I'm not confident in the LineX approach after talking to them, was the originally mentioned crinkle finish option for the powder coat. Thus my interest in learning more.

As for "just paint it", yeah, um...kind of obvious. I overlooked that option by choice, though may end up there out of necessity. To be honest, like so many times approaching things in this community, I'm a bit put off by the overt attitudes I sometimes encounter. It is, after all, almost a grand of my money, so shouldn't I be able to ask my questions and set my own direction before spending it? (And before folks flame, I've been building, growing and shutting down online communities for almost 2 decades (I have literally written books about this stuff. ;) ), so I know the variety of personalities and to not take it personally, etc., etc.)

That said, having input based on experience from folks here is often helpful, but I gather few have this bumper in aluminum, so it's sorta new territory in terms of learning the reality. Three previous mods to my truck were the direct result of feedback here, but I don't recall people being so questioning. Meh... *shrugs*

I know I can drop $1100 on an ARB and be happy with painted and heavy. I seek the lighter weight, and simply want it to look the way I choose, however. Asking for help along the way, not judgments... ;) Right now, I'm even mulling over in my mind what raw aluminum would look like on the truck, or a slight polish, etc. Just fall-back points in my plan...

But, ah, in my mind's eye, it kinda looks like ass, so I'm leaning away from the raw look...

Haha just clear coat it

Idk HW well lined will do. But my front and rears are painted with rattle can bed liner..hold up just fine. Grant it's steel.

I found that with AL you really have too scuff up the surface. So if you took a wire wheel t the whole bumper before dropping it off at linex. I bet it would be fine.

EXACTLY what I was thinking, yet this line of reasoning somehow was missed by the guys AT LineX...LOL Not sure I want to spend the $275 they quoted to learn they're clueless... ;)

Did you ask a Line-X shop, or the Line-X company directly? The shop may have just been trying to cover their ass and/or have poor prep skills.

The LineX shop - same guys who did my rear bumper (steel). But good point. I'll track down someone at the actual company and go from there. ;)

    GLAD I took your advice...

"Hell yeah!" was the answer from Gary at the LineX corporate office when I asked if it works on aluminum. Clean it, prime it with (IIRC) XPS primer and spray on the LineX. :)

"We're livin' in an aluminum world, my friend. Our product wouldn't be very versatile if we couldn't make it work with aluminum."

    Couldn't agree more Gary!

So, thanks to both Enigmaaron and Gary at LineX!
