Modify housing or change housing and use an aftermarket wire harness and switch. Which I have and make up myself or Lowrange sells them.

This will not fit a non elocker tacoma housing. Non e-locker housing on 96-04 tacoma are 8.4" and e-lockers are 8". You can modify a pick up 8" housing or a 96-02 4runner housing that is 8" to fit a e-locker.

They will if you modify the axle housing. I've seen it down many times by the guy that owns all those lockers. Also seen an elocker in an earlier front straight axle housing.

You're talking about welding in a new mounting flange? That's not as easy as modifying an older pickup 8" axle or 4runner axle.

If you read the thread completely you posted. That housing they're trying to use is completely differant then the Tacoma 8.4.
Here I t shows it being done. http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/electric_locker/
As far as an elocker in an older solid front
axle. I've seen it done but you have to make a 1/16 th of an inch shim to go with mounting gasket to line up axle shafts. Also 1/2inch block so the leaf springs clear.

You'd have to modify your existing axle housing since the non-TRD's came with a different size rear, it's not bolt-on unfortunately. Be easier install-wise to go with an ARB

Are they all tested to be in good working order? And what model year trucks are the 4.10s from? I think they changed in 2003?

They came out of wrecks. So I'd assume they were working fine. The 4.10 is out of 1998. I believe they only thing that changed was the pinion flange bolt pattern. But a dual pattern pinion flange will fix that. They're around $50.

I think so. I'd have to make a call.
