I just saw this comment lol. Try to get one as rust free as possible and don't do wide tires unless your up for leaf or axle modifications because even with 33x9.5s I rub at full lock and flex. Parts are actually pretty easy to find. Scout parts. Com and sites like that have everything and more you can ask for

    Nice Scout man!

Hey, those were the days huh, when there was enough spare engine bay space to mount a shovel, axe, and hilift in there?!?!?!?!

I'd give my left nut to mount all of that under the hood of my tacoma. You also missed the bow saw that's mounted to the carburetor cover lol

    I used to have a 1967 Kaiser M715.
Fairly stock, except for a chevy 350, brake dual master cylinder, power sterring, and 38" swampers.

There was about an acre of extra room under the hood. If I can find a pic I'll clutter your thread with it ;)

 there's one in my town that's flatbeded and turned into a tow truck on swampers

Nah 304 the 345s were a huge jump in price back then and ended up not lasting long unless really maintained

    That's a gorgeous Scout!

I saw a 4 speed 345 '79 Scout II this summer that was in running, driving condition and was still very restorable. I was so tempted to pick it up.

Maybe next summer I'll try to find one again depending on how willing I am to spend the money.

I see an awful lot of them that people swapped Chevy 350s into. Makes me cringe. I want the International engine! Too bad the body on them has a tendency to rust because the drivetrain is solid.

I have done all the hi-pro mods for a life time, since I got this truck at a great price, I will be happy with showroom new.
It is really oool you found one! I am, org. from Charlotte, and many moons ago, my dad and grandfather would go fishing on the outer banks any chance they got, ( he and my grandmother started going in 1960, they had a chey wagon and would just let the air all the way out to drive to the point.) anyway my dad ordered and got a 74 Scout 2, he loved and hated it, esp since one week after he got it the arab oil embargo hit and gas went from 32 cents to 59 and then to 79! he ordered it with the opt. disc front brakes! they could never get the squeek out of them, but it was really fun back in those days, you could go to places not many could go or would try, down to the point on Ocracoke, or over to Portsmouth island, now they used to have a graveyard of old 4wheel drive rust buckets just to drive there and there were a few scouts. the damn park service hauled them off a few years ago. well in the 70s and before they did not know a lot about rust prevention on cars, and it was expensive. except for the rust they were built like bricks, remember most of the major parts internation had been making for many years, so they had already worked out the bugs. good luck with the restoration, a lot of kids out there driving their new jeeps would not believe that the scout and the travelall were some of the leading premium 4wd in their day. talk about a tank, my grandmother had a rear wheel drive 70 international travelall.

I hear tons of stories like your at gas stations lol. People who know what they are love seeing it. I've had plenty of older women tell me that there husband had one when they met.
I love driving it past the kids with jeeps lol they can't figure out what it is but they love the look. I've had someone say nice jeep what model is it lol.
I'm having a hell of a time fighting the rust especially since I live on the inner coastal. My biggest issue at the moment is I found out one of my brake lines has cracked so I'm gonna find a braided brake line and fix it then it needs a new vacuum hose and it should be on the road it. It's a little bit of a pai to be building two trucks but I'm making it work slowly lol
