I got my late 16 build for $250 over invoice. I was in zero rush, and they knew that. Dealers can smell desperation

I knew what model/color I wanted when I was looking. I went to cars.com to find out all the dealers in a 200 mile radius and did the e-mail thing. I live in NH and ended buying in Mass about 1 hour from my house. I ended up about 800 under invoice for the truck where some of the local dealers would only take 500 off MSRP. It pays off big time to shop around.

well if you travel far for your deal, make sure that you get something in writing with a signature that shows what they stated they will give you for your trade.

Haha I will see if I can find it! I just did the same thing for my wife's new RAV4 SE. Got it almost 900 under invoice. Also got both 100,000 mile warranties down to $1000.

I looked up the website for Ubelhor Toyo in Jasper and Ron wasnt listed on the site as a team member? Hopefully he still works there. I emailed the GM to see if I can get his contact info.

Awesome. Sorry for all the questions but were you basing your trade in value off NADA or KBB?

That was a very after thought. I almost didn't go with it but I put on over 20,000 a year and with all the new electronics I decided to add it in. They were trying to get 2100 for the warranty and told them no way. Thats where they try to make a lot of extra money. I also sold cars for a little while a few years ago when I was between jobs so I know a lot of the tricks.

Your trade-in price should be negotiated before leaving the house. Just be accurate on the condition, mileage, options, etc. Take good pics with a good camera for the dealer to see. If you can't come to agreement with a dealer on the phone and email, move on to another dealer or salesperson.

Yep, 900 under invoice is a magic trick. Now I am curious about the MSRP for the truck you bought, and the sales sheet.

I got my '16 for $250 over invoice as well.

I emailed every toyota internet/fleet manager within 100 miles for a quote on the exact configuration I wanted. Most wanted to play hard ball and weren't budging on price. All it takes is one dealer though and that dealer was Freeman of Santa Rosa, CA. They quoted me the best price by far and I instantly called to place my order and deposit. Easiest buying experience as well since the price was already set!

What did you ask for in your email to them? Did you say "give me your best price" or did you get specific like "I want to pay invoice etc"?

I went by Kbb and what same year and mileage used were for sale locally. I probablycould have got $600 to $800 more if I sold it myself but, with the saving on sales tax by doing the trade it came out about equal.

Hope he still works there. My wife is looking at getting a new rav4 soon and I was going to call ron when we started shopping around. If you don't mind post and let me know if he is still there. I bought my truck in march, so not too long ago.

Just called over to the dealer and Ron Gooding is no longer there. I'm sad. :(
