Before I contacted Ubelhor Toyota and bought my Tacoma last fall, I was told by several people that Royal South Toyota out of Bloomington, IN. was a good place to buy a new Tacoma from. It is north of Jasper, IN. I may get my next truck from them if I cannot track Ron Gooding down. He is from Mississippi so I'll do some looking down south.

Yeah I'm down in the frickin dumps about it. :( I called over there but no one will tell me where he went. I know he was living in Princeton, IN. but I cannot find a home phone for him. He was a good man.

I emailed the 12 nearest dealers. I made sure to email an actual person as opposed to just contacting through the website. I listed the options I was looking for along with the invoice price of each option. I asked them to let me know what they could do. 10 replied back at MSRP. 1 replied back at a slight discount to MSRP and one replied back at $500 over invoice. I put my deposit down that day.

I realize that trading a car in is very convenient and you often may not have a choice because of the lack of transportation alternatives, but it makes things so much easier if you just sold it outright and take the trade in out of the equation. It makes things a lot less complicated when negotiating. And you can usually make a few grand more by selling it outright if it's in good shape. I hate trading in a car and feeling like I'm just giving the damn thing away. I haven't traded in a car while purchasing a new vehicle in a very long time, and I also haven't had that feeling like I just got ripped off in a very long time either.

    This comes to mind lol..

So funny how similar our experiences were. I assume everyone won't get as lucky as we did, but this is a simple thing everyone should do from the start (if of course you know exactly what you want)

I'm not sure if you did this or not, but the trick is sending a single group email to all of those sales people at their respective dealerships so they can see your shopping around. If that's what you did then good going! I've had this technique work very well in the past.

The wife got my truck by emailing about 25 dealers... then used the offers against the dealerships to get my truck for $29,900.

Thats why invoice means nothing to me. I prefer people to just state the discount off MSRP. Much easier to compare. Great deal by the way.

I sent messages to just about every dealership in the state I live in, letting them know what I wanted, that I didn't want to compromise on the features, and that I was sending the same email to everyone in the state. Then asked what could they give me for price. With that I came in at 500 over invoice. It is a bit of a drive for me, but not bad enough to not take the deal.

I ended up having to go out of state. I emailed every dealer I could find up and down california and all were MSRP or higher for a 4x4.

Work dealers against one another. When I bought my 16 Golf R, I got over $4k more in trade by using email to my advantage. Be creative and have fun with it!

Call this guy the best car sales experience I have ever had. I am in Texas and bought my car from him in Columbus Ohio.....no one in Houston could touch his $3k off MSRP:

    Dean Mahalati
    New\Used Car Sales Professional
    Toyota West
    Columbus OH
    New\Used Car Sales Professional
    Toyota West
    614-204-1106 (direct)
    614-870-8200 ext.4870

He is a Toyota Truck Master. He sells over 250+ trucks per year
In addition when I told him about the transmission typically being low on fluid he had it checked and it was low by 1 1/2 qrts., had it ready to go when I flew up there to pick it up.

My exact truck and pricing I bought from him:
    2016 Tacoma TRD Off-Road

    Columbus, Ohio, 43085

    4x4, 3.5L V6 Engine, 6-Speed Automatic

    Double Cab, 5-ft. Short Bed

    $38,494

    Total Price (MSRP)

    Starting Price

    $33,730

    Exterior Color

    Magnetic Grey Metallic

    $0

    Interior Color

Black Fabric with Orange Accent Stitching

    $0

    Packages

'Premium & Technology Package with JBL Audio with Options'

    $3,685

    Accessories

All-Weather Floor Liners and Door Sill Protectors14$179

    Delivery, Processing & Handling Fee

    $900

    Total Price (MSRP)

    $38,494

    $38,494 - $3,000 = $35,494 + 382.50 dealer fee = $35,876.50

Every dealership in Houston and surrounding area was minimum $2,500+ Over MSRP.
