I replaced my OEM filter with a aFe Magnum re-usable/washable filter from Amazon. Yeah, its more expensive but I figure I'm keeping my Taco so, why not? MPG also looks like it increased a little after a 1500ish mile trip to Utah and back. I also bought K&N washable filters for the cabin since, why not? If it saves me money on filters and all I have to do is wash and dry them then I figure money well spent versus overpriced charges from the dealer for parts and labor.

Thnaks for the replies and explanations everyone . I really appreciate it. I hadnt seen a Fram filter with the pre-filter on it before .

I had a brain fart about the direction of air flow and when i read that it comes in the bottom of the air filter box ..it was a Homer Simpson DOH! moment.

Fun Fact , when i pensioned out of the Military i worked for a short period at the Fram Plant (now closed) in Stratford Ontario. It was amazing how many companies air/oil filters came off the same production line and same with oil filters. The only difference was in packaging. some filters went into Fram Boxes and the other line was for whatever other company they were boxing at that time like i think Motomaster was one. Same with oil filter.. Cans were the same just painted different for different companies with their logo and information on it.

Please don't forget that the actual filter media and filtration level could be different too, depending on customer spec. So a bit different than box and color lol.

I use the same filter. It’s fine. My engine hasn’t exploded - yet.

4runners come with the extra foam, its just a noise reducer, it won't inhibit performance.
