OP driving on a dirt road in Huntington Beach, CA when he slid down an embankment into deep mud. Desperate and unable to free himself, he reaches out to the TW community...

It might have/maybe not, but definitely would have helped. First mod I did was change those out.

Depends what you swap them out for. The stock tires are not any worse than KO2s in mud or snow. If he had a mud terrain sure.

The stock tires across the board are shit from 2005-2015 , 1stgen, 3rd gen. Doesn't matter hence "mud terrain" "all terrain" which we all know is a bag of shit. Don't slide into a ditch

Nah I've beaten the shit out of mine for 22k miles in some of the toughest terrain in North America here in the Sonoran Desert. The Goodyear Kevlar have been great tires. People just want an excuse to put something "cooler" on their truck.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...dyear-kevlar-still-great-after-22k-mi.431366/

Simply quoting on his situation. But obviously we can drill down and say we wouldn't be here if he had treds/maxtrax etc. at that point the tire debate goes in another direction.

Agree for his situation the stock tires are not appropriate. I was replying to this portion of your statement "The stock tires across the board are shit from 2005-2015 , 1stgen, 3rd gen."

EDIT and yes the rugged fails were bad

There is hardly any tread on the Goodyears, in a mud situation they suck, such as this. I find it funny the guys who rock climb, desert play and "overland" fire roads praising the stock goodyears.

I follow I'm just speaking from personal experience. Because I couldn't afford the OR so I bought an SR and built it up from ther and the grandtrek dunflops were straight dangerous even on dry pavement.

This thread has not been as epic as the thread regarding the broken gusset in Death Valley but maybe it has to do with how you spin it. "A winter storm was blowing in and the dude had to abandon his truck then jog 9 miles to the nearest road way...."
