No the 3vz is single OHC and has 2 valves per cylinder and is kinda garbage
The 3vzfe is literally a 5vzfe with a smaller bore, forged crank, higher rev limiter and different cams. Hence why he's using the forged crank and different cams, to move the 5vz powerband away from the low-end truck powerband. Or atleast that's the goal, no one's sure yet what the 3vzfe cams do in a 5vzfe :D

The 3vz is the truck motor that came in 4runners and Pickups pre tacoma before they went to the 5vzfe
The 3vzfe is a mid 90's camry and van motor :D

We shall see with the camry cams. this engine is getting the 5vz cams first. i will find a test mule engine for the 3vz-fe cams so i dont risk any of the expensive parts. lol

And yes trucks got 3vz-e which was SOHC and honestly pretty bad, camrys got the 3VZ-fe 92 and 93. as well as the es300 of the same years if i remember correctly.

Been doing some research on TIS as to what was ordered for my truck vs what was put on when the frame was replaced. So far i have found that the LSPV was ordered, not replaced (and mines leaking, not cheap), all the brake lines in the engine bay were ordered, but not replaced. The parking brake cables were ordered, but not changed (the one with the adjustment has broken). and all the wire harness clips were ordered, but the harness was just ziptied back up..

Needless to say I'm really pissed about the LSPV because its rusted to hell. It was ordered and never put on, now i have to fork over the money for a new one (they're not cheap.)
Then there is the case of all the stripped out bolts I'm dicking with.. Looks like i'll be giving a call to Toyota corporate about it.. So more restoration on the way, hopefully they stand behind the shitty work the employee did.. (thank god he quit)

Hehe. Honestly they aren't hard to pull. I paid 100 bucks for them at a junkyard. The 93 camrys army hard to find with v6s

Yeah, I see them on ebay in the heads every once in awhile. I think I may buy mine off there. Or find a junkyard.

Best bet is a junkyard. Grab the whole engine if the u can. Then u have crank and cams. When the junkyards have sales you can grab an entire engine for like 200 bucks

Well update on the engine. Looks like I'll be taking a road trip out to Arizona to have lcengeering do the build. Amazing that no one wants to do machine work in the Chicago land area on a 3.4. I get details Monday. Time permitting I'll be doing it towards the end of the year (October-December)

Just to bore the block? Man for all the trouble would it be easier to get stock sized pistons? Not to be a negative nancy here but if you end up scrapping this build I'd like to be first in line for those rods!

Hehe it's not being scrapped, I've been waiting to do this for years now, just takes time. Reason to send it to LCe is I want it to be as perfect as possible. That's just how in am.
They'll be doing it all and I believe it'll be ran in on the engine duno as well. Money isn't much of a worry with this truck, it was my childhood and my first vehicle, I'll keep it till the day I die.

Well time for a little update i suppose.. Moneys still tight. but i keep accruing more and more parts. Everything for the engine is there. just having a hard time lining up freight to get it to LCE, but hopefully have that squared away this month. Also have gotten all the parts i need to complete my frame recall 5 years later (guy didn't replace all the parts that were ordered.) Have a new (not reman) steering rack from toyota to replace my rotted out original. Got an OEM trailer hitch, and harness. Also have a new tail gate and 2 front doors to replace the rotted out ones. (was cheaper to buy new than pay the guy to fix them and paint them) so truck will also be getting a fresh coat of paint and the floor pan repaired where rust has create pin holes.. but my basement is slowly becoming a Toyota parts department. lol
