well trucks still kinda on hold.. because my axle is still not back. sooo instead i tore into the test motor today to get the cams out tomorrow. Plan is to put the 3vz-fe cams in, check it all by hand.. if nothing abnormal shows itself, run this engine with the camry cams and just see how it reacts on a stock 97 (or 01 depends on if this engine goes in the truck for a bit) ecu.
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
healthy 97 4runner motor i got for free99 when i pulled it from my buddies rollover.

I've heard of this cam swap. Never seen it done. Is the camery cam more agressive or lighter or what?

Moves the power band way up. Factory camrys ran 7k rpm about. Sacrifce some low for way more topend. To take full advantage of the topend you’d need a forged crank. Oem 5vz would t handle much past current rev limit

I've read tale of 5vz's that could rev to the moon. I don't know what all has to be done to get there though

[IMG] Had free time. Got the spindles and shocks on. (Loosely) so some less shit laying around. Need to work on the front diff and get it cleaned up so I can pop axles in and tighten all this stuff down

this should be one serious bad asssss truck when you get it finished. You'll have to create a photo album with a ton of pics. Some of you guys here on TW are really into some serious shit, when it come to your Tacoma's.

I've actually debated selling my 03 DC V6 auto with 135k miles on it. Only because my body is so ##*@&&# up, and working on this truck has become very difficult for me to do. but I just can't bring myself to part with it. I know it's only a truck, but there aren't any better ones made. I owned an 88 ford ranger 4x4 for a couple of years, and it was okay, didn't give me any problems, but these 1st gen Tacomas, are just so reliable, until they just wear out.

They’re great trucks. My father gave me the 01. He couldn’t stand not having one anymore and found the 02 he owns now. It’s the most comfortable truck to him and his bad hip too. Only one he is more comfortable in is my tundra
