That's not really good for the environment. Everything would need to be delivered if I lived on a farm, or a compound if wanted to alleviate the need to travel. I would have to live on a parcel of land that was completely self sustaining to reduce my carbon footprint.

Some one else would have to increase their carbon footprint to pay for my lifestyle for the free money part.

your answer seems to be either "the issue doesn't exist" or "we should do nothing" , neither is a solution

Here's the real gasper, I prefer walkable solutions to either.
It's nice to have a public transport network that is finally useable and with every expansion it's rapidly becoming more convenient than my car.

Especially on weekends when I want to go eat dinner in Dallas. Screw driving and parking in that hellscape, I'll take the train. The electric train.

ICE are a small, as in sub 10% part of gas emissions. They could all cease to exist tomorrow, and it would do little to nothing to change that. The primary emissions are from developing nations. Are you willing to use force to prevent their development? If not, you won't make a dent mandating and regulating the developed world. If you want to reduce/slow emissions, go advocate for nuclear energy.

Honestly I don't know if there is a solution. What seems to be today's solution, ends up being tommorow's problem. Solving problems is what got us where we are today.

what we need is a global agreement to limit greenhouse gas emissions

There was a shortage of everything in 2020, there was less medium and heavy duty trucks on the road.

I saw something a few weeks ago where people mapped carbon with a verical graph on the roadway. The highest concentrations were around highways, especially on & off ramps. I'm almost certain they said trucks were the contributing factor based on their data.

I'm not sure how they, or the EPA study can recognize emissions based on light duty vehicles in comparison to trucks.

These big companies should be using their money and resources to tell the EPA and CARB to stfu.

Thanks. Didn't know you meant global, but still an impact when ICE cars and trucks are phased out and fossil fuel electric plants shuttered. Any step is a good one.

That's just it, the ICE cars are not what the fossil fuel plants are running for. I defy you to look around and find a product today that isn't petroleum dependent. That includes food, and not for the fuel for tractors. It's required for the fertilizer. You need ammonia, and that comes from natural gas piped to ammonia plants that are designed for continuous use. If they stop getting the gas, they fail and won't be able to be restarted. They aren't designed for stoppage. We are talking famine that would likely wipe out the 200+ million people in the world who are already bordering on starvation. Unless we are willing to intentionally cause the deaths of of more people than any previously attempted "utopia" the green dream isn't possible. It is built on cherry picked data points with motives based in power consolidation and has nothing to do with environmental preservation.
