And I'll reiterate this sentiment and just leave that data here. Can't discuss it more without breaking CoC, and the mods have a hard enough job herding cats. :hattip:

I never said to phase out petrol or natural gas all together. But I'm curious what you think is the best solution to slow pollutants from fossil fuels?

I have a question for you . If we do nothing to alter our global production of GHG from fossil fuels we end up with a planet 4-6C warmer than now , do we not end up killing more people than your scenario ?

Well, look at the global percentages.

Why are we going for the 14% slice instead of the 25%? I already suggested Nuclear. Look at Germany and, I believe, France. Compare their action on green energy, what they've spent, and their emission. There is a Ted Talk, two actually, that I can PM to you if you'd like. Purely for your own assessment.

I didn't say I oppose doing things clean. I said going after cars is a publicity stunt that won't have an actual impact. It's a red herring.

I see . I disagree and would suggest it is just one part of the puzzle but I get your point .

14% is easier at the moment than the 25% it seems. Also the USA, Germany, and other parts of Europe have plans to phase out that 25%. It's happening now. How fast do you want it all to happen? @OZ-T What is Canada up to with electric plants and switching to a greener solution?

It will have an impact, better than doing nothing. It’s not just electric vehicles though as you imply. Plenty of development is going into more efficient, cleaner aircraft, ships, power plants, farming techniques, industrial manufacturing, you name it.

You honestly believe it's easier to replace all cars with EVS, given that the rare earth metals required for a lithium battery are appropriately named rare, that it would be to actively work on replacing fossil fuel electricity generation with Nuclear? I don't.

I see more and more green space developed every day whether it's housing or commercial development. I'm not against people buying land and developing property for profit.

When I see that, I don't believe people are going to do anything to improve the environment.

I think the entire world would be better off, if people didn't pretend to be environmentalists.

That does not mean people can't support or build things that are cleaner than what is already available.

most of Canada gets electricity from hydro-electric already , nuclear in parts of eastern Canada and any coal fired plants which I believe are all in Alberta are being phased out

I never said it was easier, it's where things started to get the ball rolling lately. Also alternative minerals to none that make up EV batteries are being developed as we speak. Wind, hydro, solar, etc. are what will help reduce GHG from fossil fuel plants.

I think the focus on replacing fossil fuels powered electrical generation will be mostly with renewables

and recycling EV and other lithium batteries is currently getting more prominent with companies like Li-Cycle

I would point out that the population of China is about 10 times that of the USA. So the per capita pollution is about 20% of ours.

Sure, and our energy consumption is drastically higher as well. China also has more cars, a lower average fuel economy, and have worse traffic, but they also drive fewer miles annually than we do. Are they actually polluting more with their cars, and we make up for it because we are wealthy enough as a nation to have electricity and running water EVERYWHERE? Should we rip out our plumbing and go back to outhouses? If the answer is yes, I say you first. I like my indoor toilet when it's -15° outside! :p

Traveling overseas really puts into perspective what a pain in the ass cars are in a city. They’re great for getting out far away and for utility stuff, but other options would be fantastic.

I've traveled in europe and their 'electric' trains kick ass. Just well done all around.
