I'm looking at the same setup perhaps. How well does the Bakflip Mx4 seal where the the billie bars are attached to the bed? We weren't happy with the way the Voodoo pieces worked with the Backflip Mx4 cover.

I have had that exact setup for close to a year and zero leakage. The BillieBars guys said it would require some trimming when I met them, but I managed to accomplish it with zero trimming and just the use of silicon.

Thanks for the response. So how many folds of the Bakflip do get before it hits a cross bar? 2? How often do you find yourself needing to take off the crossbars to fold the bed cover all the way back?

Lastly, any close up pics of where the two products meet?

I'm either going to do the Bar Setup on this one that I would sacrifice strength for being able to slide using the rail.

No problem, that basically depends on personal preference and what you’re going to be mounting. I only use them for kayaks and the way that I have to have them spaced out, I have to take the BillieBars off to fold the first section of the cover up. Here are some pics I just took for you (sorry I have them off because I really only use them when traveling).

Here is what my truck looks like when everything is set up for a trip:

If you go the silicon route like I did, I would recommend using black instead of the traditional clear silicon that I used. That would blend right in and look a lot better than my setup.

Thanks I actually prefer the pics with it off as it shows what it would look like under a normal scenario for me too. I too will be using this for kayaks.

Looks good! So the silicone is just around the vertical pieces and bed. Obviously the bakflip isn't siliconed shut right?

Correct, the Bakflip functions as if the BillieBars aren’t even there. The only silicon I used was to seal the area around the BillieBars brackets and where the frame of the Bakflip is mounted to the bed rails.

Is there a way to tell if I’d have to do any cutting on my cover to make the Billie bars work? Also do you have any sales coming up?

    Is that the Bakflip MX4?

I was able to make the BillieBars work with my MX4 without any cutting or trimming.

I had to use black silicon to seal the edges around the BillieBars brackets where they went under the Bakflip but it worked well. Just took some elbow grease. Never got any water in the bed.

I posted pictures of my setup in post #72 of this thread. You can see the silicon I’m talking about in one of those pictures.

Yeah it’s the MX4. Yeah I saw the pictures. I was just Referring to the hit or miss comment. I was wanting to make sure that my serial number is one of the ones that you don’t have to cut into the cover. Thanks for the pics and response.

hey @Road_Warrior did you have to trim the rubber seal on the bakflip rail? Billie bars sent me a bracket to test out and I got it on but because the bracket sits on top of the bed lining, it raises the actual bed cover by about 1/8”. From your pics, Yours looks so flush but I wasn’t able to accomplish that look.

would be awesome to see pics with the cover folded up and see how it looks underneath. Thanks so much for sharing

I actually didn’t do any trimming or cutting. I just used a lot of elbow grease to get everything mounted very tightly.

Unfortunately I no longer have the BillieBars because I had to get a bed cap for additional storage, so I don’t have any better pics to share. I did have to use black silicon to do some sealing around the rubber seal on the Bakflip, because the BillieBars did leave a tiny gap on both sides where water could get into the bed. That’s just because I didn’t install them with the recommended method of trimming

A small amount of silicon solved the problem and the bed stayed water tight. I can’t say enough good things about BillieBars and their customer service. Even though I don’t have the product anymore, it was one of the best purchases I ever made. I highly recommend them.
