Yeah, then that's most likely what happened, just can't find the seam etc.

As far as it occurring twice in the same spot, goes along with what I posted above. But I would still put a small patch/gusset over the seam.

^^^ If it were material thickness, the metal would have torn or ripped.....No?

VS. what looks like the obvious of the seam straight separating.....

That's what I was thinking because the weak point of the material is the seam, the thickness is a contributing factor most likely tho. The loads on the LCA are large, especially after big hits, so failure usually occurs at the weak link (the seam).

Exactly what I was thinking. Its got to be a seam to be that clean of a cut. You dont need to be a fabricator to figure that out.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but how is it "obvious" that the seam failed? Can you tell just by looking at these photos that the tubes failed at the seams? It sounds like you're basing your assumption on the appearance of a clean split in both cases. Am I right?

I based my assumption on the likelihood of the seams being in the same place both times - whether intentional or coincidental.

Intentionally, I doubt Engage would have seam facing that way, exposed and not braced/boxed in.

Coincidentally, well... that's quite a coincidence.

The likelihood of material failure, specifically thickness/quality related seems greater to me. Especially when you consider the directions/loads/forces being applied to the LCA pivot.

Also, failed welds don't necessarily have clean breaks like that.

Correct, failed man made, wire/stick welds dont break clean. Laser heated machine seamed tubed metal will likely "split" from stress, as seen in the above pictures.

Metal tube, regardless of thickness, that has failed due to stress with tear the physical properties and characteristics of its compounds. Creating an unevean break.....

So based on the pictures from both failures these arms don't get lubed by any sort of grease

I guess Ill look at their website and see what type of material bushings are used.

I found one but from a different manufacture "The Boxed lower Arms pivot on massive 1″ uni-balls instead of cheap bushings" FTW!!! :D

is it possible that an un-greased pivot will cause extra stress on the sleeve and lead to failure?

if you use uniballs for lowers, then you use bushings for the uppers, or other way around, IIRC, or theres too much play in the whole system :notsure:
